Mission Summary

We are looking to add a Senior Embedded Cybersecurity Engineer to the Product Cybersecurity team to focus on security challenges pertaining to building embedded systems for autonomous vehicles. We are open to hiring an experienced engineer enthusiastic about cross-training in cybersecurity.

The Motional global headquarters are located at 100 Northern Avenue in Boston, MA. Nestled in the bustling Seaport district with sweeping views of Boston Harbor and downtown Boston, the offices are located close to major transit lines and a quick walk to various restaurants and popular attractions.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Define requirements and select hardware for secure embedded systems
  • Assist in managing hardware and firmware suppliers from a cybersecurity perspective, primarily in the form of answering questions about our requirements and designs and verifying and validating delivered cybersecurity mechanisms
  • Write low-level software to enable the use of cybersecurity hardware
  • Work with Software Engineers to integrate cybersecurity systems with Motional’s software infrastructure
  • Implement secure boot, secure communications, secure update / flashing, and secure identity functionality in self-driving devices (e.g. lidars, radars, communication gateways, high performance compute, etc.)
  • Collaborate with teammates on the Cybersecurity, Component Engineering, and other Engineering teams to implement secure and compliant systems using the Autonomous Vehicle Cybersecurity Development Lifecycle

What we're looking for:

  • BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Equivalent Knowledge and Work Experience
  • 4+ years professional experience building embedded systems
  • Experience writing software for embedded microcontrollers in C and C++
  • Experience debugging embedded system software and hardware using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Experience applying static (e.g. Coverity, etc.) and dynamic analysis (e.g., GCC sanitizers, etc.) tools to embedded software to assure quality
  • Experience at the Linux kernel and driver levels

Bonus points:

  • Safety certifications (e.g. ISO 26262, IEC 61508, EN 5012X, DO-178B/C, etc.)
  • Automotive technologies such as AUTOSAR, UDS, DoIP, and SecOC
  • Automotive communication protocols (e.g. CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, etc.)
  • Cybersecurity hardware such as Trusted Platform Modules, Hardware Security Modules, etc.
  • Utilizing existing implementations of cryptographic algorithms and implementing security-oriented subsystems
  • Building embedded Linux kernels using tools such as Buildroot and Yocto
  • Writing effective engineering documentation

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. The estimated compensation range listed in this job posting reflects base salary only. This role may include additional forms of compensation such as a bonus or company equity. Salary Range

$155,300—$207,000 USD
