Sustainability Program Manager - Support Svcs Admin - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)

The Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for the ongoing development and oversight of organizations sustainability program, initiatives, and goals for the health system in alignment with University of Southern California sustainability program Assignment Earth. In collaboration with other Keck Medicine of USC entities and departments, this role will facilitate project management, data collection and reporting, communication, and report writing for the promotion of environmental stewardship in day to day operations. This role works across multiple disciplines to develop, implement, and. evaluates environmental stewardship initiatives, to include tracking, analysis, and education. This position will be the Chair of the Sustainability Working Group for Keck Medical Center of USC. In this role, this position will assist in setting goals for reduction impacts in several broad areas: energy, waste, transportation, water, procurement, and engagement. This position requires the full understanding of sustainability programs within a health care environment and consistent with the mission of Keck Medicine of USC. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the mission and values. Supports Keck Medicine of USC strategic plan, goals and key performance indicators. This position reports to the Associate Administrator of Support Services who has oversight of Facility Operations, Food and Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Environmental Services, Security, and Parking for Keck Medical Center of USC.

Essential Duties:

  • Lead the organizations sustainability program through the development and implementation of processes and strategies to reduce the health systems environmental impact.
  • Act as the Chair of Sustainability Working Group which reports to the Sustainability Steering Committee. Areas of focus include Energy, Waste, Transportation, Water, Procurement, and Engagement.
  • Develop health system sustainability strategic plan in alignment with University of Southern California Assignment Earth sustainability program.
  • Manage sustainability efforts and monitors progress in energy use reduction, cost savings, and other measures (e.g., waste management, resource conservation). Researches and prepares recommendations for new and improved sustainability practices and programs. Plans and develops program objectives and content. Researches and identifies trends and needs, establishing program direction accordingly. Assesses quality of program operations, modifying existing program services or creating new program offerings to maintain or enhance program standings.
  • Serve as a key resource for sustainability programs. Establish goal setting for reducing environmental impact in areas of focus. Perform cost-benefit analysis of initiatives.
  • Partner with department leaders to track and compile progress for energy management, waste management, and use of toxic chemical. Develop reports for progress of initiatives in areas of focus.
  • Oversee annual Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 greenhouse gas inventory for Keck Medicine of USC facilities. Included are hospitals and medical office buildings owned and operated by Keck Medicine of USC.
  • Complete annual application for Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Award.
  • Attend sustainability relevant conferences (i.e. Clean Med).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree Preferably with emphasis in Sustainability Management, Project Management, or Health Administration
  • Education may be substituted by three to five years of experience of which three years are specific to developing, implementing and monitoring sustainability programs.
  • 3-5 years Experience in sustainability management, or related field; with at minimum of three (3) years in a lead role, preferably in healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirement related to sustainability in a healthcare environment.
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize and implement administrative and operational programs and procedures, which includes the development of budgets.
  • Must have Leadership, Administrative, Planning, Organizing, Prioritizing, Interpersonal/Relations skills.
  • Computer literate and use of personal computer and computer program software with the ability to leverage technology for tracking, monitoring, and reporting on initiatives.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills to include public speaking.
  • Achievement orientated and self-motivated.
  • Knowledge of healthcare operations.
  • Ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Ability to be an effective leader and member of teams.
  • Ability to be proactive, take initiative and achieve results.

Preferred Qualifications:

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $95,680.00 - $158,230.00.
