The Associate Professor will be in support of Graduate School of Nursing. The Graduate School of Nursing at USU is authorized to grant appropriate advanced academic degrees such as the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD). USU must be responsible to the overall educational needs of the Uniformed Services Medical Departments relating specifically to the preparation of individuals for careers in the health professions. The Graduate School of Nursing at USU is developing programs designed to recruit and retain superior nurse corps officers educated to function as independent healthcare providers, faculty, and scientific researchers for both the in garrison and deployed/austere environments.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

HJF is seeking an Educator II (Associate Professor) to serve in teaching, research, and service roles. Teach courses, serve as an academic advisor, advise the research projects for Masters and PhD learners and pursue a program of research as well as related duties. This role will also prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and develop presentations for scholarly conferences from the research data generated from the projects(s) consistent with academic rank.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a complete instructional program for the Advanced Pharmacology course for the following APRN programs: RNA, FNP, WHNP,
  • PMHNP, and AGCNS. This course is a vital part of the training leading to a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) for the AGCNS students and a Doctorate in Nursing
  • Practice for the other APRNs.
  • Develop an Advanced Pharmacology course and associated instructional material to include:
  1. pre-recorded lectures, to APRN students in either pre-recorded digital format or live lecture based upon social distancing guidelines.
  2. Create and facilitate classroom activities.
  3. Use student’s issued textbook for source of information as well as additional materials provided in by the instructor and placed in Canvas, the learning management system.
  • Deliver approximately 340 hours of lecture/review/preparation (at a ratio of lecture: preparation ratio of 1:3 or specifically 85 hours of lecture to 255 hours of preparation).
  • Evaluate and grade students' coursework, assignments, and papers within the timeframe set forth by the School policy providing effective feedback to guide student learning and success (16 hours to grade 64 student papers and 37 hours to attend 64 student presentations (20 minutes each) and grade presentations (15 minutes each).
  • Engage in the classroom and reply to emails in a timely manner.
  • Construct 50-60 questions/exam related to lecture content for 6 examinations and 3 pretests.
  • Assist with student evaluations when necessary.
  • Contractor(s) are expected to submit instructional material for lecture to the course
  • coordinator at least 14 days prior to delivery.
  • Any substitutions in teaching assignment need to be pre-approved by the course coordinator in writing.

Qualifications

Education and Experience 

  • Doctoral Degree
  • Minimum of 5-8 years' experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Doctoral-level training in education, psychology, or a related field, to include training in research design, qualitative analysis, and quantitative analysis.
  • Knowledge of and experience with teaching content areas in field of specialization.
  • Familiarity with academic and research advising Master and PhD students.
  • Strong personal initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in solving problems.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple systems, projects, and programs at the same time.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to coordinate disparate groups of faculty and learners in meeting and working together.
  • Practical experience in drug delivery and practice and be prepared to present Advanced Pharmacology material to graduate level Advanced Practice RN students.
  • Must have demonstrated expertise and the ability to communicate the required course material in an effective, efficient, and clinically.
  • relevant manner. Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate in a clear manner both in spoken and written format.
  • The ability to communicate in the English language is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to be available for the entire semester during scheduled course times. Any absence will require coordination with the military course coordinator for approved coverage.

Physical Capabilities 

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment 

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
