Metropolitan Group has flagged the Senior Associate job as unavailable. Let’s keep looking.

Department Overview

The mission of the department of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology at OHSU is to improve our basic understanding of biological mechanisms relevant to human health and disease. The department is composed of 25 faculty with research spanning mechanisms of cellular crosstalk, epigenetic regulation, cell signaling, and immune activation across cancer, infection, and other disease pathologies.

Function/Duties of Position

A Senior Research Associate position focused on cancer immunology is available in the lab of Dr. Megan Burger at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. We seek an enthusiastic and dedicated Ph.D. scientist with experience in immunology and/or cancer biology and mouse models to join our team.

The Burger Lab is focused on uncovering factors regulating T cell responses against cancer to inform the design of next generation cancer immunotherapies. We seek a Senior Research Associate to lead projects focused on 1) antigen-driven dynamics of the anti-tumor T cell response or 2) tumor microenvironment regulation of T cell responses to lung cancer. Mechanistic findings will be translated to the design and preclinical testing of cancer immunotherapies. More information on our research and relevant publications can be found at our website: https://www.ohsu.edu/school-of-medicine/burger-lab.

The Senior Research Associate will work collaboratively with Dr. Burger to develop research directions and will independently and collaboratively drive project aims. Projects will utilize genetically engineered mouse models of lung cancer paired with single-cell analysis platforms, including high dimensionality flow cytometry, single-cell RNA-sequencing, and spatial profiling to deeply investigate tumor-immune crosstalk. The Senior Research Associate will also be responsible for establishing standard operating procedures in the lab and overseeing junior research staff.

Specific technical duties will include:

  • Mouse tissue harvest and tissue dissociation.
  • Molecular and cell biology assays, including PCR, molecular cloning, qRT-PCR, western blot, lentiviral transduction, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence.
  • Multiparameter (>15 color) conventional and spectral flow cytometry and fluorescence activated cell sorting.
  • Immunological assays, including primary lymphocyte isolation and culture, T cell stimulation, adoptive T cell transfer, bone marrow chimera, ELISA.
  • Single-cell RNA-sequencing or spatial transcriptomics.
  • Administration and monitoring of preclinical immunotherapy regimens in mice (e.g., injections, blood collection).
  • Mouse colony oversight and collaboration with junior research staff on maintenance.

Additional duties will include:

  • Design, coordination, and optimization of experimental conditions.
  • Independent data analysis and interpretation.
  • Presentation of data at lab meetings, internal seminars and occasional conferences.
  • Contribution to writing of grant applications, manuscripts, and other publications.
  • Writing of regulatory documents (e.g., IACUC amendments).
  • Development of technical and administrative standard operating procedures for the lab.
  • Mentorship of junior research staff and interns on experimental design, execution, and data analysis.
  • Oversight of lab expenditures, inventory, equipment maintenance and biosafety.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in relevant field AND 1 year of relevant experience OR
  • Master's Degree in relevant field AND 5 years of relevant experience OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND 9 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with mouse models of disease and immunological assays.
  • Experience in collection, statistical analysis, and summation of scientific data.
  • Experience in scientific writing/grant submissions.
  • Co-authored manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Mentorship experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in relevant field AND 1+ years of research experience.
  • Experience with mouse models of cancer.
  • Extensive experience with high dimensionality flow cytometry.
  • Comprehensive expertise in Immunology, including T cell biology.
  • Prior examples of successful fellowship or grant applications.
  • First author manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
