As an IT Systems Design Architect – Finance and Accounting, you will design and implement computer-based enterprise business solutions for Valero's accounting/financial functions as part of the Information Services (IS) Financial Systems team. The primary focus will be project work, but will also be involved in supporting existing financial management applications. Work closely with team members, end users, and other IS departments to meet the company's goals with little supervision. The candidate will have to play a crucial role in the upcoming brownfield implementation of SAP S/4.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads complex, end-to-end process & system design projects (may include software selection) involving SAP.
  • Architects elegant enterprise-scale solutions that meet our business requirements using SAP FI/CO, IS-Oil PRA, SAP GTS, SAP GRC, VIM, SABRIX, BW on HANA, and SAP BPC on HANA.
  • Designs, configures, tests, trains, and coordinates with technical and functional resources on application development and reporting projects.
  • Works directly with the business and other I/S teams to define and develop new solutions.
  • Participates in application enhancements and third-level support required to meet the needs of Valero's Accounting, Tax, and Treasury functions.
  • Provides mentoring and coaching to other functional and technical team members in the SAP FICO area.
  • Presents ideas/projects to various audiences across Valero and at all levels of management.
  • Responsibilities will include the successful and reliable implementation of highly complex cost-effective systems and architecture while meeting business needs.
  • Supports financial applications and business users as a project manager, lead, or individual contributor for highly complex solutions or enhancements to existing applications with a high degree of technical expertise and business understanding. This includes the use of Valero's system to track support activities.
  • Works on highly complex tasks for deploying new solutions and enhancements/fixes to existing solutions. These include, but are not limited to: troubleshooting, problem-solving, issue resolution, user interaction, training, defining systems scope, gathering requirements, documenting design & functional specifications, research and fact-finding, configuration, testing, reporting, cutover, IS coordination, and business user coordination.
  • Sustains effective work relationships with business users, IS departments, and Valero business partners across all departmental and functional lines at all levels and the business frontline management.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth mastery of an entire horizontal business process chain and the integration into other business processes while continuously looking for opportunities to improve, streamline, and reinvent the business process.
  • Helps coordinate the adoption of new business procedures resulting from system/application changes, including the development of system specifications, documentation, training, and communication plans.
  • Performs analysis and recommends quality, highly complex solutions for business processes and stays abreast of emerging cost-effective technologies. Brings operational efficiency through information integration and management. The individual is sought out as an expert within the organization and externally and participates in industry/technology forums.
  • Understands, improves, and mentors others on the various IT methodologies, which include project management, development, service management, and system architecture.
  • May be required to work off-hours and on weekends for projects or support.
  • Some travel may be required.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, Accounting, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent required.
  • 10+ years of experience with SAP FI/CO module, including large SAP implementation projects required.
  • 3 years of project management or team lead experience is required.
  • Experience in a supervisory role (coaching, providing feedback, evaluations) is required.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Refinery industry or related business/IT knowledge with SAP ERP system preferred.
  • CPA license preferred.
  • Experience working as an Accountant preferred.
  • Large consulting/accounting firm experience preferred.

Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
