About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to join our Supply Chain Quality department as a Supplier Quality Engineer. The supply chain quality team is responsible for product quality from NPI handover, through suppliers and into sites, both reactively and proactively. The supply chain quality engineer will be responsible for the triage of customer concerns, working with suppliers and internal stakeholders to implement appropriate containment actions, investigate RCA using quality tools such as 8D to ensure effective measures are embedded into working practices to prevent future recurrence.

The successful SQE will be forward thinking, erring towards proactive rather than reactive ways of working, and have a challenging mindset and character to ‘do the right thing’ to enable business needs and objectives.

What you will do 

  • Drive and support the implementation of the agreed quality processes and templates into the design, development and manufacturing engineering teams.
  • Provide expertise to OT Dev and suppliers in use of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) - internal use as a framework for NPI transition; external use as developing process for PPAP. 
  • Ensure OT Dev teams provide product CTQ’s and that features are clearly identified and measurable throughout manufacturing.
  • Support the design and development teams to ensure the supplier's Measurement Systems are appropriate and validated
  • Implement supplier quality assurance plans with new and legacy suppliers.
  • Standardise manufacturing process metrics across the supply chain while ensuring their effectiveness.
  • Drive new supplier onboarding, scheduled process and ad-hoc audits and assessments as required to identify risks and ensure business continuity.
  • Drive resolution of internal and supplier non-conformances using industry best practice root cause analysis techniques. Proactively lead problem solving activities with the Supply Chain for quality concerns and component failures utilising quality tools such as RCA, 8D, etc.
  • Work with new and existing suppliers to ensure improvement plans capture all opportunities.
  • Leading Quality Audit & Surveillance activities to demonstrate that the Supply Chain is delivering the project in accordance with all product requirements.

We'd love to hear from you if you have: 

  • Degree level qualified or equivalent industry based experience.
  • Supplier Audit and Assessment experience. Lead auditor experience, preferable ISO9001 and/or IATF16949.
  • Understanding and experience of lean sigma manufacturing environments
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing and quality control measures.
  • Hands-on experience remotely managing external suppliers/manufacturers.
  • Experience with using and implementing APQP and PPAP documentation.
  • Working knowledge of technical drawings / GD&T.
  • Breadth of knowledge of mechanical & electrical manufacturing processes e.g. pressed sheet metal, fabrication, machining, injection moulding, electrical cabinets, extrusion, batteries, high volume manufacture or FMCG…
  • Proven track record identifying and resolving quality issues in manufacture and improving yield.
  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies and tools.
  • Investigative and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.

Bonus points if you also have...

  • Experience scaling up manufacturing lines in existing facilities.
  • Experience transferring complex production lines into new facilities.
  • Experience with measurement principles.
  • Experience using and implementing SPC studies
  • Knowledge of statistical packages like Minitab.
  • Knowledge of ISO14001, Environmental Management (EMS).
  • Knowledge of ISO45001, Occupational Health and Safety Management (OH&S).
