Partner 36, East Region Operations Lead

The Role

The East Region Operations Lead is a member of the Workplace Experience team, and will play a critical role in supporting a diverse population of end users up to and especially at the Executive level. This role requires a dynamic and highly collaborative person who will be the go to partner for all a16z stakeholders and office owners to drive workplace strategy to ensure high employee engagement and satisfaction while in our offices.

The successful candidate will ensure a16z facilities in the East Region (NYC/Miami/Washington DC/London) meet the needs of the business now and in the future. In addition, they will be responsible for supervising the front desk and facility teams and making sure operations run smoothly and efficiently while the team is providing exceptional service to our employees and guests in the East Region. 

Operations

  • Vendor Management: build and maintain relationships with third-party vendors and service providers, ensuring that services align with a16z’s values and meet our workplace standards and expectations
  • Project Management: work closely with our Senior Project Manager to manage workplace projects from inception to completion, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and objectives are met. See projects through to flawless completion in a timely manner. 
  • Change Management: drive change initiatives related to workplace design, culture, and policies in the East Region. Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders to ensure a unified approach to change, fostering buy-in and support across all levels of the organization. Design and deliver effective communication plans that clearly articulate the rationale, benefits, and expectations of the change initiatives to all employees
  • Workplaces coordination: support the Workplace Experience team with overseeing daily office functions, and establishing a structured and efficient atmosphere that facilitates the accomplishment of a16z's goals
  • Communication: serve as a liaison between the Workplace Experience team and a16z’s many verticals, ensuring effective communication and alignment on workplace initiatives
  • Collaborating intimately with the General Partner lead of the office, ensuring seamless integration of strategic directives and operational workflows to enhance overall performance and alignment with organizational goals.

Leadership

  • Strategic Planning: collaborate with the various stakeholders to develop and execute the workplace experience strategy, in alignment with the overall company
  • Understand and recommend emerging technologies to keep current on the roadmap of existing partners to ensure we leverage the best technology to support a16z business needs
  • Prepare reports, presentations and documentation to communicate progress updates, changes and program updates to internal stakeholders
  • Serve as the liaison between the Workplace Experience team and the verticals to ensure alignment on initiatives
  • Budget oversight through partnership with the internal finance team
  • Gather, examine and decipher data pertaining to utilization, employee engagement/satisfaction and other relevant metrics. Leverage the data to make well-informed decisions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of proven experience in a similar role, ideally in a technology or facilities management environment
  • Team management experience required
  • Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
  • Manage relationships with vendors and partners to ensure the company has access to the best tools and resources.
  • Strong understanding of workplace technology systems and infrastructure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical users
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Proactive and service-oriented mindset
  • Ability to perform and manage technically complex projects using independent judgment and personal initiative
  • Strong analytical thinking, strong system perspective, and diligent process analysis skills
  • Strong initiative, innovative thinking skills, and ability to analyze details and translate into the “big picture” view
  • Able to expertly reprioritize constantly is critical to succeed in this role
  • Demonstrated customer service excellence
  • Experience with managing and influencing teams across multiple geographies
  • Knowledge: G Suite products: Gmail, Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Google Calendar, preferred
  • Familiarity with project management software such as Procur, ClickUp, or Microsoft Project
  • Familiarity with maintenance management software such as Azzier. BlueFolder or BuildEngine
  • Strong ability to flex quickly to changing situations while relying on project management training and principles to ensure projects are under control
  • Work mainly out of our New York office, with some travels to our other offices

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $289,000-$337,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
