JOB DESCRIPTION

A Principal Backup/DR (BDR) Architect is a multi-talented information technology professional and accomplished backup and disaster recovery expert that will contribute to a dynamic, infrastructure design team making a difference. The Principal BDR Architect core objectives include designing and executing on architectural directives while ensuring 24x7x365 business continuity for an energy efficient, global semiconductor company. 

The role requires versatility along with initiative. The ideal candidate will have extensive BDR design and engineering expertise, know how to think “outside-the-box”, and share in responsibilities designing, implementing, enhancing, and supporting critical corporate, engineering and manufacturing infrastructure. The Principal BDR Architect will work closely with other architects, infrastructure team members, application developers, and business stakeholders. Adhering to industry best practices to support onsemi’s business objectives and user community experience is of utmost importance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiate and lead architecture and design discussions to create next generation BDR solutions
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and assess the impact of various disasters on the organization
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create comprehensive disaster recovery plans tailored to the organization’s needs
  • Perform business impact analyses to understand the potential consequences of disruptions to different business functions
  • Oversee the implementation of recovery strategies outlined in disaster recovery plans
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of disaster recovery plans
  • Maintain detailed documentation of disaster recovery plans, actions taken during emergencies, and lessons learned from each incident
  • Stay informed about emerging threats, technologies, and best practices in disaster recovery
  • Ensure disaster recovery plans comply with relevant legal and regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate BDR solutions for continuous improvement of business continuity 
  • Define and develop technical BDR architecture and standards
  • Coach and mentor others

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 20 years’ progressive information technology experience 
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience designing and engineering BDR solutions in an enterprise environment
  • Minimum of 8 years’ of Commvault experience with proven product expertise
  • Expertise with VMware virtual infrastructure BDR
  • Extremely self-motivated professional who is committed to success, quickly adapting to change and maintaining composure in high-pressured environments
  • Mastery of technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing procedural and system solutions that are cost effective and meet requirements
  • Technical leadership expertise in providing business continuity solutions for infrastructure services and business applications including BDR design, implementation, and operations for major projects
  • Experience designing and implementing BDR solutions on premisis and in the cloud
  • BDR experience for containerized workloads (e.g. Kubernetes)
  • Solid Linux and/or Windows system administration competency 
  • Experience with NFS and fibre channel protocols 
  • Solid storage experience, preferably with NetApp FAS and E-Series, HPE 3PAR SAN, and/or Dell/EMC SAN and NAS products
  • Experience with public cloud storage (Azure Blobs, Files, Queues, Tables, and Disks; AWS EBS, S3, FSx, etc.)

  • Highly effective communication (oral and written) skills and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Effectively interact with business and technical audiences, tailoring the communication to broad audiences to achieve desired results
  • Exceptional use of visual communication (PowerPoint, Visio, etc.) tools
  • Demonstrated expertise presenting at all levels, ranging from technical to non-technical resources, including C level executives
  • Ability to effectively socialize and acquire approval for ideas, concepts, designs, and solutions is an absolute must

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree (minimum requirement) or master’s degree (preferred) from a regionally accredited institution in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Sciences, Information Technology, or Software Engineering
