What we expect of you, day to day:

The Data Product Scientist is a key member of the Data Science Hub team supporting Europe. As a Data Product Scientist, you will be accountable for the design & development of proof of concepts, data products & data assets for the purpose to sell it to Visa’s external clients in Europe. In this role, you will work collaboratively with Visa Consulting & Analytics function (VCA- Visa Consulting & Analytics), Data Solutions team, Data Engineers, Data Product Go to Market teams. You will be responsible for designing cutting edge data solutions and best practices to drive business performance with a clear commercial ‘value’ and measurable ‘return’. Half of your day will involve data exploration/analysis and building proof of concepts (coding/working with data) and the other half will be dedicated to discussing data requirements, gathering feedback from clients, managing internal stakeholders.

You will be at the forefront of leading new and existing data driven products for our clients in Europe. You will have key accountabilities within the team responsible for development, launch and scaling of data products that help leverage one of the deepest, most exciting consumer payments datasets anywhere in the world to help grow our clients’ businesses.

Principal Responsibilities

Product Development and Execution

  • Develop DS Solutions management framework, including taxonomy development, pipeline development and technical execution
  • Being able to manipulate, analyze data and run feasibility studies, proof of concepts (sql, python) and having a strong sense of data science solution scalability
  • Deep understanding of data, data concepts and predictive techniques, data analysis.
  • Working with VCA (Visa Consulting & Analytics) consultants, Data Solutions team, Engineering teams in all European markets. Working with data science/tech teams who are responsible for building automated solutions which you will design/prototype.

Innovation & Process Transformation

  • New ideas proof of concept testing, new data driven scalable solutions for Merchants & Acquiring businesses
  • Identifying new data product development opportunities across markets and helping to shape the vision of data products
  • Drive & enable the agile process of solution development to accelerate delivery efficiency & reduce manual effort.
  • Supporting documentation & training which will be required when launching a new data product/solution (training material, sales collateral)

Product Strategy and Roadmap

  • Gathering feedback from stakeholders to fully understand clients’ needs and requirements
  • Defining detailed analytic scope, designing the solution and relevant methodology which will answer the right client’s questions.
  • Being a data advocate and showcasing our capabilities to other teams. Identify trends in our client work to inform Visa’s data product development strategic path.
  • Commercial focus on priority outcomes, including related P&L targets

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Min. 3+years hands-on experience in design & development of data science solution and product management
  • Strong analytical skills using modern distributed systems & hands-on programming such as Hadoop/SQL, Python
  • Experience in designing business intelligence/reporting tools e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Microstrategy
  • Must be able to analyze and interpret data and to critically evaluate information gathered from different sources.
  • A broad knowledge and understanding of relevant technologies and advanced analytics techniques such as SQL/Hadoop, coding, data cleansing, predictive concepts etc. etc.
  • Demonstrable prior data product experience of successful data product/solutions development and roll-out, and clear understanding of the impacts to stakeholders throughout the end-to-end lifecycle
  • Graduate or master’s degree in quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Operational Research, Computer Science, Economics, or engineering or equivalent experience
  • Results oriented with strong analytical, consultative and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently, as well as a part of a culturally diverse team
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Must be able to effectively interact and collaborate with users, team members, management and other resources in a cross-functional, demanding environment.

Preferred

  • Fluent in English. An additional European language is a plus.
  • Ideal but not essential: Expert technical knowledge of data visualization ecosystem and common open-source technologies (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Microstrategy), associated with scalable BI design principles and preferably in a financial services or consulting setting for client facing solutions Experience working in payments industry (bank, credit reference agencies, Fintech) or management-consulting firm.
  • Deep understanding of Payments and Banking Industry including Merchants, Small business and Acquiring business
