Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

As we continue to expand our team to ensure success in developing our new infrastructure, we have created some new roles to support our operations further.

The opportunity

As the Fixed Plant Outage Advisor, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing planned maintenance or outage activities. In this role you’ll be managing the coordination of multiple tasks within a limited outage window, ensuring a smooth and efficient execution of maintenance, repair, or upgrade projects during scheduled plant shutdowns/outages. The Fixed Plant Outage Advisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring meticulous planning and seamless execution of the annual schedule which includes approximately 21 minor plant outages and 8 major outages, across the Tanami Gold Operations surface and underground fixed plant infrastructure. 

About you

You will have significant prior experience in coordinating and managing plant outages and shutdowns in a mining environment, together with detailed understanding of safety regulations and protocols, mining plant equipment and procedures. 

Familiarity with project management principles to plan, execute, and monitor outage activities effectively and an understanding of maintenance procedures and best practices for mining equipment is required. 

An ability to coordinate and prioritise tasks and resources combined with exceptional communication skills and the ability to identify and address challenges quickly, making decisions to keep the outage on track will be requisite to your success in this role. 

At a practical level, your Trade qualification or equivalent will be favourably viewed and proficiency in relevant software and tools for outage planning is a must. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with Maintenance Planners and Department Heads to develop a comprehensive outage schedule and plan.
  • Ensure necessary resources, materials, and personnel are available and scheduled appropriately.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for stakeholders involved in the outage, including maintenance teams, contractors, and management.
  • Facilitate effective communication between different departments to address any issues or changes in the outage plan.
  • Examine the scopes of work meticulously to verify the availability of precise and sufficient information, ensuring that the job can be executed flawlessly.
  • Strategically plan and optimize the sequencing of tasks within the outage timeline, ensuring efficient management, to guarantee completion within the designated timeframe.
  • Implement contingency plans if there are delays or unforeseen circumstances that impact the schedule.
  • Ensure that all maintenance and repair work is carried out according to established standards and procedures.
  • Conduct inspections to verify the quality of work and compliance.
  • Maintain detailed records of the outage, including work performed, issues encountered, and resolutions applied.
  • Generate reports for management and other stakeholders to evaluate the overall success of the outage.
  • Gather feedback from outage participants and stakeholders to identify areas for improvement in future outage planning and execution.
  • Facilitate post-outage reviews to assess the overall performance and implement recommendations for enhancements.
  • Validate the Gantt chart, promptly escalate emergent work, obtain scope amendment approvals, review the impact on critical path schedules.
