Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and serving as an integral member of the Corporate Operations & Strategy Division’s senior management team, the Vice President, Marketing & Communications is responsible for the delivery of all marketing and communications products, design and digital support. 

The Vice President will lead and focus on key activities that enable HOOPP to protect and strengthen our value proposition and will work directly with senior internal partners, including the executive team and Board Members.

The Vice President is strategic partner to the organization, not merely executing on the strategy and ideas put forward by divisional partners, but directly involved at the outset of projects to help shape the strategy and deliver on the targets/objectives.

What you will do:

  • Develops and oversees the implementation of an integrated strategic marketing and communications plan to: communicate to members and employers; advance HOOPP’s position as a leading Canada-model pension plan and advocate for the Canada-model plan, amplify HOOPP’s brand and key messages; and increase the visibility of HOOPP’s programs across all stakeholder audiences.
  • Leads or contributes to large corporate projects (eg. Annual Results campaign, Young Members campaign, Newcomers to Canada campaign, Strategic Plan, London/Foreign Office communications).
  • Responsible for the design and execution of marketing and communications plans which will incorporate a variety of communications vehicles such as newsletters and other print publications, web, social, video and other online communications and marketing materials.


Team Development/Management

  • Responsible and accountable for the successful leadership, mentorship and management of the Marketing and Communications team while facilitating a diversity and inclusion mindset that aligns with HOOPP’s core values.

  • Inspire, empower, coach and mentor employees to personal and professional success using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis.
  • Develops and owns the long-term strategy for internal communications including content, distribution and technology requirements, collaborating with other Divisions across the organization.
  • Manages the execution of all business communications and partners with Plan Operations to deliver engaging and informative communications to HOOPP’s members and stakeholders.
  • Provides continued support of the organization’s brand identity by partnering with other internal divisions at HOOPP to develop and support brand initiatives.
  • Create fully integrated member and employer campaigns that support our corporate narrative and strengthens our brand.
  • Draft key communication materials, executive speaking notes, and a variety of investor communications material
  • Develop KPI’s and dashboards to monitor, measure and assess the effectiveness of all internal and external communications programs.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with cross-functional internal and external partners.
  • Provides advice to the Chief Operating Officer on items to be brought forward to the CEO, Executive Team and board of Trustees.
  • Identifies communication challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization and work with the Marketing and Communications Management team and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
  • Develops and implements an internal communications strategy that supports the informational needs of HOOPP’s employees, fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace, and promotes a healthy culture.
  • Explores new emerging communications vehicles for both internal and external communications.
  • Works collaboratively with leaders from other divisions to ensure that divisional communication needs are met.
  • Establish relationships with relevant thought leaders and subject matter experts
  • Presents to Board Committees (as required).

What you bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, English or a related field
  • Background in pension or health care fields required.
  • 10+ years successfully coaching, mentoring and managing teams.
  • 10+ years in a communications and marketing role, supporting and leading corporate and external communications in a Sr. Leadership role.
  • Proven track record of working closely with multiple senior executives to manage and move forward their communications agendas.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to communicate financial objectives and key messaging clearly and succinctly to all stakeholders
  • Entrepreneurial and disruptive in your ability to think about problems, challenge the status quo and a willingness to take calculated risks in order to support HOOPP’s vision.
  • Ability to shift priorities quickly, manage tight timelines and be relentless in your desire to get the job done while motivating your team.
  • Ability to balance strategy with flawless execution of programs to deliver upon business goals.
