Data Analyst- Management Analyst II - (2400041J)

Description

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital under the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an experienced and committed Data Analyst (Management Analyst II) for the Quality Department at the hospital campus in Jamaica Plain. The Data Analyst provides analytical and operational support to the Quality Management Department. The incumbent ensures timely, accurate, and complete reporting of data, data analysis, and consult on data improvements. The incumbent also participates in meetings; creates reports; maintains spreadsheets and other types of electronic records; and performs related duties as required.

Schedule: The hours for this position are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (37.5 hours per week), Monday through Friday. Days off are Saturday and Sunday

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Collects, abstracts, and gathers data from primary or secondary data sources (Data Repository, Business Intelligence Reports, etc.) and electronic and paper medical record.
  • Utilizes the data collected to identify and interpret trends and prepares statistical reports, charts, and graphs to display information relating to the Quality Management Department and reporting findings from data analysis to the management team.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains databases relating to the Quality Management Department using Excel, Access, Tableau, SQL Server, and other similar software etc.
  • Develops expertise in the use of data reporting functionality in the electronic medical record and converts data from the electronic record to usable formats for data analysis.
  • Active participant in hospital based regulatory surveys. Maintains all records and reports related to regulatory survey accreditation process.
  • Facilitates, organizes, schedules, and participates in Quality Management meetings and conference calls.
  • Develops expertise in the use of the Meditech system, specifically querying and data abstraction; converts Meditech reports into useable and useful formats (Excel).
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all areas of Quality Management Department functions.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to write concisely to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in a logical sequence.
  • Knowledge of the methods used in the preparation of charts, graphs, and tables.
  • Ability to understand, explain and apply the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned activities.
  • Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of data to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to work independently; uses critical thinking to accomplish tasks when few precedents or guidelines are available.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • General understanding of Quality & Regulatory survey process.
  • General knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC), the Department of Public Health (DPH), Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Intermediate-Expert level computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
  • General understanding and knowledge of the Meditech system, specifically querying and data abstraction.
  • Knowledge or the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned activities.

Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity.

Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients.

The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in work simplification, management analysis, program analysis, methods analysis, economic analysis, fiscal analysis, financial analysis, budget analysis or in program administration or program management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in business administration, business management, public administration, industrial engineering or industrial management may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.*

II. A Graduate degree with a major in business administration, business management, public administration, industrial engineering or industrial management may be substituted for the required experience.*

III. A Bachelor's degree or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management, public administration, industrial engineering or industrial management may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
