The Team & Role The Corporate Data team at Zuora is responsible for building a "data mindset" culture within the company. We aim to maximize the value of our data to improve the customer experience and boost company growth and employee productivity. Our team includes data engineers and data scientists working closely to design and build complete solutions. As a Senior Data Scientist on the team, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Serve as an organizational expert and thought leader on machine learning and AI
  • Deepen your knowledge of the customer lifecycle at a B2B company and contribute directly to maximizing revenue and customer retention
  • Design and implement ML- and AI-powered products that leverage the wealth of mission-critical subscription, billing, and payment data our customers manage on the Zuora platform
  • Gain managerial experience mentoring other data scientists and engineers on topics related to machine learning and AI research and operations

This is a location-specific position that requires you to come to headquarters at least twice a week on average. What you’ll do The business outcomes you will impact include (but are not limited to):

  • Customer Churn Prediction:
  • Develop predictive models based on sentiment analysis and product usage data to accurately forecast customer churn.
  • Utilize advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to identify key factors contributing to churn and recommend actionable strategies for retention.
  • Upsell Opportunity Identification:
  • Build models leveraging firmographics and product usage data to identify upsell opportunities with existing customers.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing teams to implement data-driven strategies for upselling our products and services.
  • New Product Feature Development:
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance our product offerings with machine learning and AI-driven features.
  • Lead the design and development of innovative solutions that align with market demands and customer needs.
  • Best Practices and Governance:
  • Establish and document best practices for training, evaluating, and operating machine learning and AI models.
  • Promote a culture of responsible AI and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.

Your experience and skills

  • A master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer.
  • Proficiency in machine learning frameworks (e.g., numpy, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and programming languages (Python, R).
  • Strong expertise in natural language processing (NLP), sentiment analysis, and predictive modeling.
  • Proven track record of developing and deploying machine learning models in production environments.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior data scientists and share best practices.
  • A passion for staying updated with the latest advancements in data science and AI.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with customer churn analysis, customer segmentation, and upselling strategies is a plus.
