Position Summary:

The System Operations Duty Director will be responsible for directing all facets of the airline’s “day-of” and near-term operating schedule during their on-duty period. The Duty Director, along with their Duty Director peers, will oversee the on-site operations of the System Operations Center (SOC) teams which includes; System Operations, Dispatch, Crew Services, Load Planning and Air Traffic Control (ATC) functions. They will also partner closely with Maintenance Control and Security, who also have support functions within the System Operations Center. The Duty Director will oversee the execution of the flight schedule while ensuring all safety policies and practices are adhered to while meeting the daily operating metrics and goals of JetBlue Airways.

The Director System Operations Duty along with their peer Duty Directors, will liaise daily and continuously with the other airline operating groups, including but not limited to Airport Operations, Inflight Operations, Flight Operations, Technical Operations, Customer Support, International Operations, Business Continuity and Emergency Response, as well as the Director of Operations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate cross-departmentally during the daily operation to optimize the system, including decision authority regarding cancellations in accordance with all Federal Aviation Regulations and Operations Specifications as they apply to the JetBlue daily flight schedule
  • Have operational oversight over all functions within System Operations
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of System Operations
  • Ensure operational targets are being met
  • Ensure team readiness for response to significant irregular operations and emergency events and respond as Incident Director when required
  • Assist in the development and oversee the implementation and execution of strategic plans and initiatives for the System Operations Control group
  • Take a significant role in the development of Crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, goal achievement, and development of the succession plan within System Operations
  • Lead and develop the System Operations Manager on Duty (MOD) team
  • Facilitate regular operations review meetings with Operations, Customer Experience and Safety leadership
  • Oversee budget and manpower for the System Operations department
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma
  • Seven (7) years aviation experience
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a manager or higher leadership position
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a 121 airline System/Network Operations Control Center or Airport Operations Control Center
  • Strong working knowledge of Crew Services, Dispatch and ATC and their interdependencies, knowledge of Flight and Tech Ops disciplines
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR)
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures
  • Ability to prepare, present, explain and justify operational decisions
  • Available for overnight travel (up to 20%)
  • Able to work flexible hours and rotating shifts
  • Available for an emergency response to SOC (Long Island City, NY) on weekends, holidays and odd hours with a maximum of two hours’ notice
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid FAA license in Dispatch, Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) and/or Airframe and Powerplant (A&P)
  • Fifteen (15) years aviation experience
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in a 121 airline System/Network Operations Control Center or Airport Operations Control Center
  • Prior experience working in or with all of the following functions: Dispatch, Crew Services, System Control, Airports, Tech Ops and Flight Ops
  • Experience participating in emergency response events or drills
  • Prior experience managing a large operation

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $150,000 and $170,000 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
