Overview

TITLE: Internship & Career Coordinator (Rebound)

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

LOCATION: 876 Schenck Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11207

HOURS: 35 Hours/Week; Non - Exempt

Salary: $45,000 - $50,000

JOB SUMMARY: Rebound is a job readiness program that incorporates basketball to engage participants. The program serves young adults, who are disconnected, justice involved, overage and/or under-credited. In close collaboration with other program staff, the Internship Career Coordinator provides job readiness and career exploration workshops, as well as works one on one with youth. They also work with the local business community in East New York and neighboring areas to create employment opportunities for participants. The program uses basketball as a vehicle for engagement, but also as avenues for learning job readiness skills such as teamwork, conflict resolution and taking direction from a coach/supervisor.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Facilitate career exploration, work readiness and financial literacy workshops for program participants.
  • Lead work readiness workshops utilizing virtual platforms as need specifically Zoom Video Conferencing.
  • Provide individual job and career counseling to youth.
  • Support participants’ growth by providing continuous feedback and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Assist the Basketball Coach in utilizing basketball and dance to teach life and job skills (i.e., team work and conflict resolution).
  • Work with the local business community to develop unsubsidized employment opportunities for the participants.
  • Reach out to various organizations to create partnership linkages for recruitment.
  • Provide individual counseling, group counseling, and crisis intervention and case management for participants as needed.
  • Point person for recruitment and enrollment of youth to the overall program in conjunction with Program Manager and Basketball Coach.
  • Assist youth in preparing for and securing employment opportunities.
  • Follow up with employers to assist with any performance issues that may arise.
  • Monitor and provide support to youth once they have gained employment.
  • Plan end of cycle ceremonies.
  • Assist in enrolling youth in educational programs.
  • Provide referrals to Single Stop, mental health counseling and other community resources.
  • Perform statistical, narrative, and record keeping duties as required, including monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors’ degree or 3+ years of experience developing employment opportunities for youth and/or young adults required.
  • Strong group facilitation or teaching skills required.
  • Experience working with disengaged and/or justice involved youth preferred.
  • Knowledge of the East New York community a plus
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and participants and network with diverse employer constituents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication a strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice a plus
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, and/or youth development perspective.
