WHO YOU ARE:

A Technical Writer I is someone who gathers and verifies information and evidence through interviews, reviewing, and analyzing records and logs. Uses proper methods to search for, collect, and maintain various types of data to support and generate conclusions. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

The Technical Writer I performs complex (journey-level) technical writing work. Work involves composing, organizing, and editing compiled information. May coordinate the composition, organization, and editing of compiled information. May provide guidance to others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:

  • Compose, review, and edit technical documents, materials, and reports. 
  • Research, develop, and disseminate information on techniques for organizing and presenting information. 
  • Review edited materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, and content. 
  • Consult with staff in the development of formats, graphics, and the layout of publications. 
  • Arrange for the duplication and distribution of documents, publications, and reports. 
  • Consult with staff in the development of materials. 
  • Prepare responses to correspondence, reports, surveys, questionnaires, and other requests for information. 
  • Review, analyze, and summarize documents. 
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions. 
  • May assist in preparing and refining material for speeches and other public presentations, and in developing graphics and layouts. 
  • May assist in planning and scheduling documentation delivery. 
  • May coordinate the composition, review, and editing of technical documents, materials, and reports. 
  • May provide guidance to others. 
  • Perform related work as assigned. 

YOU QUALIFY WITH:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, English, education, or a related field is required.
  • One year of full-time experience in technical writing, journalism, or communications work may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of education.

YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH: 

  • Working knowledge of editing documents using AP style or similar business style guides
  • Knowledge of composing, organizing, and editing the work of others.
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
