We are looking for a Consulting Security Engineering Specialist.

Role Description

An important part of putting our customers at the centre is ensuring that we provide quality IT services and support to the business which arms them with the tools required to better service our customers.

We are augmenting our Security Technology team who works closely with Global and Canadian Information Security Offices, and other Infrastructure and Application Technology teams to design and deploy Security Services. Our Security Services defend our global enterprise, including business units, customers and shareholders from external and internal security threats. Our team consists of highly motivated, innovative, and tech-savvy engineers that design and deploy security technologies using agile delivery methods and automation.

What you’ll do:

The Consulting Security Engineering Specialist is responsible for providing technical leadership to a team of security engineers by mentoring and supporting them in designing, deploying, and operationalizing security technologies on various projects. In this role, you will provide technology innovation by researching and conducting proof-of-concepts on emerging technologies. Also, creates and maintains technology roadmaps and promotes a mindset of continuous service improvement by conducting service/technology health assessments. The role is at a Manager level and requires good balance of technical and soft skills.

  • Leads the validation and practicality of new technologies through rapid prototyping and Proof of Concepts
  • Does the ad-hoc research and experimentation that may be needed to answer technology questions
  • Conducts product/technology evaluation against established criteria and business requirements and provides recommendation including effective documentation and presentation of the recommendation
  • Provides technical leadership on large projects by leading a team of security engineers to design and deploy security technologies; review and approve design documents & deliverables
  • Conducts technical health assessments on the security technologies
  • Creates and maintains security technology roadmaps by researching on technology advancements and emerging industry trends
  • Helps evolve security engineering practice by mentoring practitioners, developing design standards, and establishing ‘engineering’ methodology
  • Maintains relationship with product vendors and create technical specification for purchasing of the vendor products
  • Designs, builds, and integrates 3rd party components, using standard and/or scripting tools (batch languages, programming languages, scripting languages, etc.)
  • Participates in the creation of project deliverables (estimates, schedules, risk assessments, etc.) as a project team member
  • Makes design decision within the bounds established by project, portfolio, and enterprise architectures
  • Design and deploy complex engineering solutions by ensuring that components are engineered in accordance with the use to which they will be put (for example, backups may need to be both reliable and high performing, but restores may only need to be reliable)
  • Some travel maybe required 

Who you are:

  • A degree or equivalent education in a related discipline such as Computer Science, Business Computing, Engineering, or Commerce. Security certification will be an asset as well
  • Minimum 7 years experience designing, integrating, and implementing end-to-end application, infrastructure, and security solutions in a large organization
  • Proven skills in designing and deploying multi-platform solutions
  • Broad knowledge of industry technology and directions, and specific knowledge in security and infrastructure technologies such as web servers, application servers, Intel, AIX, integration technologies, workstation technologies, database technologies, network technologies, IAM technologies (Sailpoint, ISAM), Cloud Computing, Automation, IPS/IDS, DDOS, Firewalls, Cryptography, Endpoint Security (Defender), Email Security (0365 Defender, ProofPoint, Agari, FireEye), WAF (F5), Networking, VPN, MFA, SIEM, Vulnerability Management, AWS Cloud Security, GCP Cloud Security, Prisma, CASB, etc.
  • Experience in scripting, orchestration and automation tools such as Python, PowerShell, Ansible, BladeLogic, GIT, CI/CD methodology, etc.
  • The incumbent should have skills and knowledge in capacity planning, disaster recovery planning, product/service lifecycles, service management and a strong focus on customer service
  • Experience in performance tuning complex infrastructure solutions; knowledge of performance and monitoring tools will be an asset
  • Attention to detail and effective planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated initiative (self-starter) with the ability to influence others
  • Proven history of both technical and management skills
  • Good working knowledge of ITIL practices and processes
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience working in a team environment
  • Strong desire to implement change and make a contribution to the organization
  • Proven history of making appropriate decisions and recommendations
  • Good knowledge of Agile, Dev Ops, and PM methodologies
  • Strong desire and commitment to continuous learning and familiarization with security technology trends and technologies

What really sets you apart:

  • Accreditation in Security such as CISSP or equivalent
  • Dev Ops or Agile Experience
  • Experience in Scripting / Automation
  • Have a good knowledge of existing services and technologies offered by Canada Technology Services

Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Toronto, London, Winnipeg. 


The base salary for this position is between $74,500 - $137,900 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
