Work Location: Sugar Research Station, St. Gabriel, LA

Position Description: The LSU AgCenter Sugar Research Station invites applications for full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position in sugarcane breeding and quantitative genetics at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank.

The successful candidate will pursue research that complements the LSU AgCenter sugarcane variety development program by providing advanced metrics that brings additional objectivity to the decision-making processes relating to crossing, population development, variety advancement and release. The candidate will be part of an inter-disciplinary team involved in the variety development program. The candidate will provide oversight for the crossing, early-stage selection, and parent population development stages of the program. The person in this position will have primary responsibility for data management and analysis and will serve as an important link for the application of genomics and other emerging technologies for the sugarcane variety development program. The candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized and extramurally funded research program.

Inter- and intra-disciplinary collaborations will benefit the candidate and are highly encouraged. The successful candidate will participate in mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers as a member of the graduate faculty of Louisiana State University. Part of these responsibilities will include developing innovative programs that will engage the Louisiana sugarcane industry and involve stakeholders in the variety development effort.

Qualification Requirements: The applicant must possess a Ph.D. in plant breeding or a closely related discipline at the time of employment. A proven track record of scholarly achievement in areas related to the position such as statistical modeling, quantitative genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, genomics, and general variety development optimization is important. Outstanding oral and written communication skills, to support their research, are necessary.
