As Head Country Tax you will lead the tax organization for all Sandoz entities in Switzerland with a focus on direct tax while ensuring alignment on indirect taxes.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Tax Planning and Strategy

  • Own Swiss Tax Risk planning on all dimensions.
  • Own financial monitoring (Balance Sheet and P&L) impacting tax matters.
  • Alignment of Swiss Tax Strategy with Global Tax Strategy and global initiatives.
  • Ensure tax cash governance and lead planning conversation with BPA/Treasury.
  • Proactively review and tax-optimize intercompany relationships.

Tax Reporting and Accounting

  • Review and sign-off tax provisions of Swiss entities, and align on conclusions and recommendations with Head Group Tax and Head Corporate Finance Switzerland.
  • Lead on YE closing positions for Swiss Entities and guide on respective tax risk provisioning – local and global risk impacting HQ – with the respective stakeholders in business or Group Tax.
  • Uncertain Tax Positions (UTP) provisioning for Swiss matters and for global matters potentially having an impact on HQ.
  • Ensure timely direct and indirect tax filings and establish a solid, reliable and efficient tax compliance process.

Day-to-day Operations and Business Partnering

  • Monitor national and international tax environment and ensure compliance with local tax law in alignment with internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain and govern a good working relationship with tax authorities at cantonal and federal level.
  • Represent Sandoz in Industry Circles and Business Associations in coordination with other Group Tax Team members and maintain a professional tax network internally and externally.
  • Perform periodical health checks in relation to tax compliance, design remedy actions and key controls.
  • Handle local notification requirements for Country-by-Country Reporting.
  • Manage tax audits, information requests and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Support on operational transfer pricing.
  • Review and advise on business development deals, structuring/restructuring projects from a Swiss tax perspective aligned with Group Tax and the Group Tax strategy.
  • Act as a business partner for all Swiss based business units and functions. Coordinate and align all direct and indirect tax matters with the respective stakeholders at HQ/Country level (such as Corporate Finance, FRA, CFO, FSC, business unit, HR, Group Treasury...).
  • Ensure a collaborative and knowledge sharing working relationship within the Swiss tax team, with Group Tax and with key stakeholders at HQ, incl. technical trainings.

Role Requirements

What you will bring to the role:

Minimum requirements

  • University degree in Tax, Legal, Finance or Economics.
  • Fluent English and German (spoken and written) language skills.
  • 7 – 10 years of relevant tax practice, with excellent knowledge and solid experience of national and international corporation tax, transfer pricing and international tax law laws.
  • Strong tax technical expertise to operationalize and implement tax planning projects and to defend them in tax audits. Strong hands-on tax accounting skills and experience.
  • Proven leadership skills and effective team player who can build credibility and confidence within and outside the organization with a strong focus on needs of internal customers.
  • Pro-active, goal and solution-oriented attitude, able to respond to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Very good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to persuasively convey both ideas and data and present complex information clearly as well as translate tax technicalities and needs into simple value propositions, actions and descriptions understandable to non-specialists.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate and collaborate with business partners and resolve conflicts in a constructive manner.

Desirable

  • Additional qualification in a Tax or Finance related area (e.g. Swiss CTA)
  • Big 4 firm experience is a plus
  • Final job title ('Head Country Tax' or 'Senior Tax Manager') and applicable employee job level will depend on the successful candidate’s level of expertise
  • Some restrictions to flexible working conditions may apply and will be discussed at interview if relevant
