The Position

Primary Purpose of Job (Job Summary)

Collaborate with a group of immunology/rheumatology/nephrology scientists and associates to provide expert biology support to preclinical and clinical studies for the discovery and development of new therapeutic agents (small molecule compounds) in autoimmune and kidney diseases. Scientists are responsible for contributing to new hypothesis, target identification and validation, project initiation and progression, and drafting and execution of research plans for nominating new projects. Commensurate with experience, scientists expected to lead cross-functional discovery project team(s) and/or support projects with biology expertise. Apply skills in drug discovery to assess the potency, selectivity, safety, PK and PD of novel molecules.

Principle Roles & Responsibilities / Accountabilities

(Major functions of the position) 

  • Drive or support target identifications in collaboration with translational medicine, disease biology research, and chemistry teams.
  • Initiate new drug discovery projects based on scientific insight with cross-functional input.
  • Design and implement various in vitro and in vivo studies to study potency, selectivity, and to elucidate molecular mechanism of drug action and efficacy based on scientific considerations within the context of team or project goals.
  • Perform scientific analysis for results interpretation and present them collaboratively.
  • Initiate and execute research activities related to identification and characterization of novel therapeutic targets and compounds.
  • Investigate and develop methods or technologies for the rapid advancement of projects.
  • Prepare standard operational protocols, study reports and high-quality manuscripts.
  • Other related duties as required, including but not limiting to organizing and maintaining laboratory and training associates and/or junior scientists.
  • Work in a flexible schedule to meet deadlines.

Qualification and Experience

Education/Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in immunology, cancer biology, molecular biology, nephrology, rheumatology, kidney diseases, or a related field. PhD with medical knowledge (MD) is a plus. Post-doctoral training experience is preferred. Industrial experience in drug discovery is a plus. Oversea education and/or training experience is preferred. Leadership Competencies

  • Should communicate effectively, collaborate efficiently with co-workers (cross functions and/or sites), and be able to train junior level associates and/or scientists.

Job Required Competencies

  • Deep knowledge of immunology and related fields is preferred.
  • Disease biology of the gut, kidneys and connective tissues is preferred.
  • Experience in drug discovery, target identification and validation is a plus.
  • Should be proficient in designing and conducting experiments involving the state of the art techniques within the areas of cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacology.
  • Contribute to scientific publications.
  • Good communication skills in English and be capable of presenting results both inside and outside of company.
  • Title of positions (Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Principal Scientist) matched with candidate’s qualifications and years of experience.
