Digital Engagement (Intern)

We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and hard-working Digital Engagement Intern to join our Communications team. The Intern will assist in the planning and execution of digital communications and engagement activities for the AAMC and contribute to ongoing virtual community and social media initiatives. This is a great opportunity to understand the working process and day-to-day responsibilities of an association’s digital engagement team through hands-on learning and execution. The Intern will work under the guidance of the Director of Community Relations & Strategy and collaborate with the Social Media Manager to ensure quality and visual cohesion in accordance with the AAMC brand and overall digital strategy.

The Marketing & Engagement Team is responsible for the AAMC's Marketing and Digital Strategies, including the overall structure, organization, and presentation of the AAMC's virtual communities' program, social media, and other digital properties.

Our team helps AAMC staff apply their audience and content expertise to the planning, development, and maintenance of all digital content and properties. We also guide staff in the use of AAMC tools and standards. We collaborate with staff in every division of the association to create and maintain a cohesive digital presence that best represents the AAMC and serves our members and constituents to our fullest capacity.

The AAMC Virtual Communities Core Team has created an enterprise strategy and solution for communities to meet our constituents’ needs. The AAMC Communities Network is a private, members-only space that connects our constituents to the world of academic medicine. The AAMC uses social media to advance its mission and communicate with its members, constituents, students, applicants, stakeholders, and the general public. The AAMC encourages the use of social media and communities to enhance communication, collaboration, and information exchange in support of the AAMC's strategic mission. 

Development Opportunities:

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with platform/feature development process for the AAMC Communities platform.
  • Work with vendors, staff, and volunteers to troubleshoot platform problems and identify solutions.
  • Measure overall community metrics against goals. Provide regular progress reports via AAMC’s Communities Dashboard.
  • Perform qualitative digital listening to capture trends in conversation topics to influence the member and editorial strategy.
  • Analyze engagement data to find trends in community engagement habits.
  • Report findings to leaders within the content function regularly, and other leaders across the business as needed.
  • Support efforts to grow AAMC’s community network through work with existing community managers and pipeline development.
  • Work with Member Services team to develop, implement, and assess the efficacy of community promotion and engagement strategies and tactics as they relate to the AAMC’s strategic goals.
  • Support enhancements to and the maintenance of the AAMC’s community intake process, management standards, and policies (incl. rules of engagement in reference to communities and in planning, testing, launching, monitoring, optimizing, and measuring new communities).
  • Plan, support and execute community programs and events, including meet and greets, office hours, member spotlights, topic-based clinics, etc.
  • Engage and communicate with community members on a regular basis to gather input and ideas.
  • Work with community members and volunteers to implement initiatives, content, and activities that both support their objectives and add value to the community.
  • Support the AAMC Community Lab, which promotes the continued development and success of the AAMC’s community programs and is a place to learn more about community building and engagement, explore advanced topics, and collaborate with your AAMC community peers. 
  • Collaborate with and support both the virtual communities program director with content creation, strategy, implementation and analysis of various projects, programs, events and materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Triage technical support for community members, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a rising junior or senior in college
  • Majors in communications, business, nonprofit management, marketing, digital strategy preferred
  • 3.0 or above GPA required
  • Must be available to work 20-35 hours per week
  • Must be comfortable working remotely and asynchronously. Previous experience with zoom, teams, and other hybrid work programs a plus.
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft programs, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook preferred
  • Social media and content creation experience preferred
  • Experience with Trello, Microsoft planner or other project management programs a plus
  • Some writing and proofing skills are required
  • Proficient communication skills (written and verbal) and administrative skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, completing assigned tasks within identified time frames

Remote Work Eligibility

This position may be eligible for remote work.

Compensation Grade Range and Mid-Point

Grade Range:$18.00 - $26.00/ Grade Mid-Point:$22.00

The above annual compensation range and mid-point are general guidelines. For candidates who meet the criteria, the AAMC's compensation philosophy is to target the midpoint of the salary range. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
