Assistant Director of Communications and Events

Food Services

Location: New Orleans, LA

Summary

Responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies to aggressively increase meal plan utilization, voluntary meal plan participation, and flex, retail, catering, and concession sales. Charged with improving customers’ overall satisfaction with Dining Services and the program’s national reputation through concerted marketing and promotional efforts. 

In collaboration with the dining contractor and other university Dining Services’ leaders, improves electronic marketing mediums (e.g., website, e-newsletters, and social media presence) and production of newsletters, brochures, and other marketing materials to promote the program and improve customer engagement and satisfaction. Responsible for program promotion to internal and external stakeholders and marketing coordination with other university marketing and public relations resources. 

Works closely with the dining contractor’s (currently Sodexo’s) marketing team to create attractive programs and initiatives, promote existing services, and evaluate program success. 

Provides event planning and logistics support for high-profile events with the dining contractor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills required, including web writing best practices.
  • Knowledge of communications best practices and proficiency with content/graphic design creation.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and meet established or anticipated deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare reports and presentations independently, and present ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to serve as a positive, contributing member of the HR/Facilities Management teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work cooperatively/effectively with others of diverse personalities, education & cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Highly proficient computer skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5-plus years in internal communications, public relations, or corporate communications.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and InDesign

This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 26.
