This position is part of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Office of External Affairs. As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will be responsible for advancing DFC's media relations strategy, proactively pitching and doing targeted relationship building with the media, serving as a first point of contact for media inquiries, and advising top management on issues related to press and public affairs communications.

Major Duties:

As a Public Affairs Specialist (Media Relations Director), you will:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive media relations strategies to enhance the visibility and reputation of the corporation.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with national and international media outlets, reporters, editors, and producers to promote accurate and favorable coverage of the corporation's activities.
  • Proactively identify media opportunities and pitch stories to secure coverage that aligns with the agency's strategic priorities.
  • Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries, coordinating responses and interviews with the corporation's leadership and subject matter experts.
  • Collaborate closely with the Press Secretary and Deputy Press Secretary to ensure consistency and coherence in messaging across all media channels.
  • Monitor media coverage and industry trends to identify potential risks and opportunities, providing timely insights and recommendations to senior leadership.

Qualifications:

You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements:

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive media relations strategies to enhance the visibility and reputation of an organization in an international context.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with national and international media outlets, reporters, editors, and producers to promote accurate and favorable coverage of an organization's activities.
  • Proactively identify media opportunities and pitch stories to secure coverage that aligns with strategic priorities and is targeted to reach specific audiences.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
