POSITION DETAILS
The Executive Legal Counsel/Chief Legal Affairs & Labor Relations Officer reports directly to the President and provides legal advice on a broad array of issues, including, but not limited to: litigation, employment and labor law, compliance, contractual agreements, governance, and oversight of the search process, affirmative action plans, training, and workplace investigations. The selected candidate will possess a record of professional experience that demonstrates progressive responsibilities and significant interaction with senior leadership teams. Experience in higher education is strongly preferred, as is experience serving in a prominent leadership role, managing direct reports and working effectively with various constituencies.
The Executive Legal Counsel also serves as hearing officer for disciplinary and grievance proceedings and represents the College at higher levels of the disciplinary and grievance processes as the Labor Relations Designee. The Executive Legal Counsel serves as the College’s liaison to the University’s Office of Legal Affairs, and coordinates Ethics Officer and Records Access Officer responsibilities. The Executive Legal Counsel provides legal advice and consultation to the President, administration, and faculty through administrative channels.
With respect to the college’s search processes, the Executive Legal Counsel supervises the certification that search committees meet diversity requirements and that they are informed of all City University of New York (CUNY) search procedures and policies. In coordination with the College’s Office of Human Resource Services and Office of Academic Affairs, the Executive Legal Counsel supervises the development and revision of training programs for staff, faculty, and students on a range of topics, including, but not limited to: diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace; affirmative action compliance; implicit bias; ethics; conflict resolution; bullying and other forms of misconduct; and workplace violence. The Executive Legal Counsel also serves as the college’s liaison to the City University of New York (CUNY) Office of Diversity and supervises the preparation and submission of periodic plans and reports to the University, the CUNY Board of Trustees, the State, the City, and other relevant entities.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Other Qualifications
Candidates must have a JD, be admitted to the N.Y. State Bar, and have at least eight years of related experience including experience in the field of employment law. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and organizational skills, as well as excellent judgment. Prior experience in working in a college or university setting.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$180,000 - $195,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
