The Senior Data Analyst (Manager, ERAS Data), serves as the cornerstone of the ERAS team, providing crucial analysis that informs the development of new products and enhancements, as well as powers key insights that drive decision-making across the residency and fellowship recruitment community. This strategic role is instrumental in achieving our goal of making ERAS data more accessible to the community and solidifying our leadership in guiding applicants through the residency application process.

The responsibilities of this role include: designing, creating, and implementing databases and data models for efficient ERAS data analysis. Develops and implements database recovery plans and procedures. Develops and implements database analysis and development policies, standards and procedures. Collaborates with database software vendors and external technical support on issues such as software upgrades, problems and potential solutions. Acts as a liaison between the IT development group and business units for the development and implementation of new systems and enhancement of existing systems. Evaluates new applications and identifies systems requirements. Evaluates new IT developments and evolving business requirements, and recommends appropriate systems alternatives and/or improvement to current systems. Prepares communications and makes presentations on system enhancements and/or alternatives. Interprets internal or external business issues and recommends solutions/best practices. Works independently to create, update, implement and model standard methodologies. Leads projects or project steps of varying size and has accountability for ongoing activities related to projects, programs and/or operations. Applies in-depth professional level knowledge to independently solve a full range of complex problems and offers sensible solutions. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Represents team in meetings with other work units. Serves as a reliable resource for management.

How will you make an impact?

Deliver ERAS data support for product, operations, and research activities

  • Support business operations, conference presentations, and research initiatives by building customized datasets, reports, and data visualizations based on specific ERAS data needs.
  • Partner with the product team to translate data into actionable insights, including building and maintaining dashboards to track key performance indicators like application completion rates and interview invitation success, and measuring the effectiveness of product changes.
  • Generate financial reports and invoices for the Finances department based on relevant ERAS data.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and other technical teams to ensure data quality, accessibility, and security for efficient ERAS data usage across departments.
  • Maintain data pipelines and analytical models by regularly auditing and optimizing their accuracy and effectiveness.

Provide ERAS stakeholders with data support

  • Leverage SQL, Python, and R to extract, clean, analyze, and model complex datasets relating to ERAS data.
  • Identify trends and user behaviors such as increasing popularity of specific specialties, geographic preferences of applicants, and factors influencing interview invitations.
  • Develop data-driven insights and recommendations to improve the facilitation and efficiency of residency and fellowship recruitment for schools, learners, and programs.
  • Design and implement BI dashboards and data visualizations to effectively communicate key trends and insights to both internal and external stakeholders .
  • Serve as the ERAS data subject matter expert, providing guidance and expertise to cross-functional teams (product, research, academic affairs) and external partners (associations, residency programs, schools).

Provide real-time event analysis and support during critical milestone events

  • Deliver real-time data insights and analysis during high-impact events like SOAP and September Cycle opening to inform strategic decision-making and address operational needs.
  • Offer on-the-spot technical support to the development team by solving data pipelines or issues with data visualization tools as needed during these events.
  • Proactively monitor data trends and system performance throughout critical periods to identify and address potential issues before they impact application processing or candidate experience.

Remote Work Eligibility

This position is eligible for remote work in the contiguous US

Compensation Grade Range and Mid-Point

Grade Range:$102,900.00 - $191,100.00/ Grade Mid-Point:$147,000.00

The above annual compensation range and mid-point are general guidelines. For candidates who meet the criteria, the AAMC's compensation philosophy is to target the midpoint of the salary range. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
