FACTS PDG part of Grid Solutions, a GE Renewable Energy business, delivers high power (>100MVAr) Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) as Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) and Static Var Compensators (SVC), Fixed Series Capacitors (FSC) and Synchronous Condensers (SC) systems. These FACTS devices are used to control power system voltage and reactive power flow, also typically used to improve the integration of renewables to the power system making the future power system more sustainable, well as to improve the power system stability and transmission system efficiency. You are seasoned expert in the field of grid integration of high power (> 100MVAr) reactive power compensators namely STATCOM (static synchronous compensator) and SVC (static var compensator) and have the ability to lead and support work of other engineers by means of verbal/written instructions, reviews and approval processes. You will belong to a local Power Electronics Engineering team and work in collaboration with global Product Management group. You will technically lead a team of engineers delivering project(s) for control system design targeting to implement control features complying with highly demanding customer specifications. In this position you will also be accountable as Product Owner for dynamic performance and simulation studies of our Control SW solution. The work may also include taking part in R&D activities for NPI projects.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) electrical engineer with a strong background in control software, simulation.

Role & Responsibility

  • Overall technical responsibility in the field of dynamic performance and simulation studies for Control SW (scope, targets benefits, strategy, plan etc)
  • Support the team in planning, organizing and executing Control SW project delivery activities on time and within budget.
  • Hands-on Control SW Team support - Problem solving, technical induction, mentoring, Interviews and selection process.
  • Produce, review and approve high quality study documents and specifications.
  • Plan, specify and participate in testing. Review pass-fail criteria and approve test results.
  • Lead technical negotiations with end customers and other stakeholders.
  • Support technical tendering. Review and approve technical specifications, plans and estimations. Validate Clause-By-Clause analysis.
  • Advocate and mentor for first time right culture
  • Seek and deploy Continuous Improvement and Process improvement opportunities.

Required Qualification

  • M.TECH/M.E (or higher) in Electrical/ Power Electronics/Power Systems/ control system with relevant experience.
  • Specialized knowledge in Electrical Power Engineering with good understanding of compensation systems, power electronics embedded/ software control and understanding of control theory behind HV/EHV grid connected devices.
  • Knowledge and experience on multiple design/simulation tools (e.g. Simulink, PSCAD, RTDS)
  • People leadership skills, Strong prioritizing and time management skills 
  • Strategic view to anticipate and implement coming needs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Must be flexible with working hours and willing to travel to support projects globally.
