POSITION: Credit and Structured Capital Investment Senior Associate

LOCATION: Viking Global Investors LP, New York, NY 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Partner with the investment, public equity and private equity investment teams to identify and evaluate investment opportunities leveraging fundamental, research-intensive approach.
  • Conduct comprehensive capital structure-related analysis including, performing assessment of a company’s products and services, completing industry review, conducting analyses of a company’s financial information, evaluating capital structure, conducting thorough evaluations of a company’s management team, performing liquidation analysis, hosting discussions with a company’s potential customers and competitors.
  • Consult with industry experts and, perform reviews of alternative data.
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models and produce valuation models of company securities and potential investment targets.
  • Perform financial analysis utilizing a range of valuation methods including: precedent transactions, discounted cash flow and comparable company analyses.
  • Monitor new and existing investment fund portfolio companies for financial and operational performance including producing investment committee presentations for initial investments and maintaining investment committee presentations for ongoing investment activities.
  • Perform primary, in-depth research on industry and company fundamentals.
  • Work in partnership with the Principal to form an initial hypothesis on investment opportunities.
  • Conduct analysis, test set of assertions, and proceed with diligence plan.
  • Conduct targeted direct outreach in prioritized sectors of healthcare, consumer, industrials, financial technology (“FinTech”), and financials.
  • Develop relationships by attending conferences, meeting management teams, advisors, and other investors ahead of potential investment opportunities.
  • Engage with company management and investor relations teams, sell-side research analysts and buy-side peers.
  • Collaborate with relevant investment team members to leverage their work and expertise.
  • Attend regular cross-sector meetings and provide updates on team investment activities and broader credit market color.
  • Domestic travel 5-8 times per year, 1-3 days per trip to attend conferences and meet management teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics or finance, or a related quantitative field (U.S. or foreign degree equivalent) plus five (5) years of post-baccalaureate, progressively responsible experience in the job offered or investment experience at a private equity or credit-focused asset management firm or at an investment bank.
  • Must include five (5) years of experience in/with:
  • ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams;
  • strong analytical skills such as financial and valuation research including:
  • cash flow/discounted cash flow, price, precedent transaction, publicly traded comps, capital structure analysis, revenue and expense forecasting, cash flow analysis, gross and net retention;
  • performing complex financial analysis and modeling;
  • Microsoft Excel skills;
  • strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; and
  • excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must include two (2) years of experience in/with:
  • structured financings in hybrid, credit, and credit-like investments and secondary investments in hybrid and credit;
  • deal structuring and negotiation; and
  • Must be willing to travel domestically 5-8 times per year, 1-3 days per trip to attend conferences and meet management teams.

The base salary range for this position in New York City is $174,000 to 185,000. In addition to base salary, Viking employees may be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, 100% coverage of medical and dental premiums, and paid lunches. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be individually determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s skill set, experience, education, and other qualifications.
