Role Purpose (-%Role purpose)

The Senior Analyst role sits within the Infrastructure Investment team at Local Pensions Partnership Investments (“LPPI”). The Infrastructure Investment team is responsible for investing and managing client investments in LPPI Infrastructure IPV, GLIL Infrastructure, client-held fund investments and The London Fund.

The person’s role is to support the Infrastructure Investment team in all origination, execution, asset and portfolio management activities, primarily in indirect investments (funds and co-investments). The role encompasses analytical, communication as well as administrative tasks that enable the broader Infrastructure Investments team to deliver on its mandate and grow as a platform.

Key Responsibilities (-%Key responsibilities)

  • Originate, evaluate and propose suitable investment opportunities (mainly funds and co-investments) which align with the infrastructure team’s mandate. Undertake due diligence which encompasses business plans, sensitivity analysis, valuation and fund manager capabilities, as well as legal / commercial negotiations with external parties as required.
  • Support portfolio monitoring and management activities (mainly funds and co-investments) and track such activities into internal systems. Take ownership of certain monitoring areas and fund management relationships, as well as data management (e.g. performance, fees) and ESG initiatives.
  • Maintain and update an internal portfolio model on at least a quarterly basis to support performance assessment, portfolio construction and reporting activities.
  • Provide ad-hoc analytical support to other members of the infrastructure team as required.
  • Draft investment papers, meeting notes, Board pack comments and conference minutes as required.
  • Lead on capturing relevant information as a part of investment stewardship process (engagement with managers and companies on ESG issues) for inclusion in LPPI’s quarterly Responsible Investment (“RI”) reporting to clients and external disclosure on stewardship (PRI / UK Stewardship Code).
  • Engage with the internal Investment Strategy team and other internal teams to support Strategic Asset Allocation and Client Commitment analysis.
  • Draft monthly asset commentary reports, quarterly and annual Infrastructure portfolio reports, Investment Committee papers, and ad-hoc reports as required and/or directed by senior team members.
  • Liaise with wider LPPI functions, including RI, Compliance, Finance, ODD, CoSec and Legal teams and facilitate efficient information flow among the teams to ensure smooth origination, execution and asset and portfolio management processes.
  • Support closing processes for all types of investments by working with wider LPPI functions including Operations, Finance, CoSec, Legal and Communications teams.
  • Ensure that all relevant investment documentation is properly saved and easily accessible.
  • Prepare the relevant governance / approval notes to enable facilitate investment decisions.
  • Assist with preparing KYC packs as requested by the third parties during investment execution process.
  • Report on and keep log of any issues uncovered with the tools, systems, data and information supporting the investment strategy, investment due diligence and monitoring procedures.
  • Provide relevant information to the Investment Performance Analytics team to facilitate fee reporting and analysis workstream.
  • Act as key liaison for all internal and external auditing matters arising in relation to infrastructure investments.
  • Build and maintain manager and investor networks; promoting LPPI as a partner and active LP. Represent LPPI in external settings as appropriate.
  • Continually develop both knowledge and skill in the professional investments arena by maintaining up to date information in relation to market development and regulation changes, through the attendance of external seminars and other professional courses as necessary.
  • Actively coach and inspire, listening with curiosity and building an inclusive environment.

Requirements for the role (-%Requirements for the role)

  • Demonstrated experience either on infrastructure deals or wider M&A gained at a Corporate, Investment Advisory, Financial Advisory or a Consultancy firm.
  • Educated to graduate level (or similar) ideally gained within a Business, Finance and or investments related discipline.
  • Potentially working towards final stages of completion of a relevant Investments / Finance related qualification (e.g. CFA) with a desire to actively maintain professional knowledge as required for the role.
  • Understanding of and experience implementing a typical investment due diligence process, from origination to portfolio management.
  • Strong understanding of the infrastructure market: themes, opportunity set, fund managers, whilst maintaining awareness of broader private markets trends.
  • Knowledge and skills to build and / or operate a financial model.
  • Understanding of private markets valuations and underwriting techniques.
  • Effective communication skills including the ability to influence and build good working relationships at all levels both internally and externally with potential partners and advisers.
  • Excellent level of numerical, analytical and report writing skills including a working knowledge of MS office tools to assist in the communication of key messages and to facilitate discussions and decision making.
  • Strong attention to detail in analytical, numerical and written work produced, combined with ability to synthesis analysis into effective communication internally and externally.
  • A proactive, self-motivated team player capable of managing a high personal workload across multiple mandates / portfolios with multiple deadlines.
  • Promotes positive behaviour through own actions and attitude with the ability to innovate within a team environment and be a flexible and supportive team member.
  • Ability to build a professional network and seek business opportunities with fund managers and external advisors.
  • An understanding of the breadth of the diversity agenda including embedding good practice and an understanding of LPP’s commitment to combating discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity.
