Creative Director, Producer, Brand Video and Photography

Job Description

As a Creative Director, Producer, Brand Video and Photography within ASU’s Enterprise Brand Strategy and Management unit, you will play a pivotal role in the creation and execution of compelling short form videos and advertising (15, 30, 60 second formats) and photography that aligns with the brand's established vision and objectives. Creative will be shared with our audiences in the forms of commercials, YouTube shorts and videos, event videos and social media. Photography is featured in ASU Thrive magazine, on social media and is shared with all communicators as part of ASU brand libraries. You will oversee the entire production process from concept development to final delivery, ensuring the highest quality output while managing resources, timelines and budgets effectively. 

Essential Duties

  • Strategic Planning and Management: Collaborates with other creative leads on the team and university stakeholders to understand objectives, messaging and target audiences, translating these into creative concepts for video and photography projects. Monitors the performance and effectiveness of video and photography content, analyzing metrics and feedback to inform future strategies and improvements. Strategically manages the brand’s flagship Youtube channel, responding to metrics and publishing content from across the creative ecosystem.
  • Art Direction and Editing: Provides art direction and ensures consistency with brand guidelines across all visual content produced, maintaining a cohesive ASU identity and aesthetic. Directs shooting and ensures technical quality of production. Plays the role of lead editor or supporting editor depending on the project, working with the team.
  • Content Development: Generates innovative ideas for short form storytelling in video and photography that resonates with ASU’s target audiences and drives engagement, relevance and brand awareness. Creative deliverables include short form videos that include concise interviews, b-roll and related coverage in addition to photography that is magazine-quality for ASU’s magazine. Conducts research and interviews and writes scripts for projects.
  • Production Oversight and Delivery: Leads end-to-end management for all video and photography initiatives, including scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and timeline management. Works with a project coordinator to traffic approvals through internal and external review processes. Includes the oversight of all aspects of short-form video, animation and photography production, casting, location scouting for studio or onsite locations, set design, equipment procurement, and post-production editing, to ensure the successful execution of each project. Leads and is directly engaged in plans that provide shotlists, reserves locations, organizes teams, sends call sheets in advance and leads cross-functional teams in covering subject matter experts.
  • Quality Assurance: Conducts thorough reviews of all deliverables to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality, accuracy and brand consistency.
  • Team Leadership: Manages a team of videographers and photographers, providing guidance, feedback, and support throughout the production process. Determines requirements for staffing, equipment, materials and facilities to complete a range of production scopes and scales, including the integration or outsourcing of projects to freelancers.
  • Vendor Management: Builds and maintains relationships with external vendors, freelancers, and production partners as needed, negotiating contracts and ensuring deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines. Includes video, photography, animation, voice talent and other related creative expertise as required.
  • Community Leadership: Our team plays a strong orchestration role in the wider work of the ASU community that requires skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships through one-to-one communications, in workgroups and leading video community meetings.
  • Budget Management and Reporting: Collaborates with supervisor, business team and creative peers to develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenses and resource allocation to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness without compromising quality. Prepares required reports and records of all production activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND eight (8) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Twelve (12) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • A portfolio showcasing direction and editing of short form video (15, 30, 60 second formats), animation and photography, demonstrating creativity, technical proficiency and strategic thinking. Creative for a multi-channel campaign is required. Creative for a major brand preferred.
  • Evidence of proven track record of success in video and photography production, with at least 6 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a creative agency or working for a major brand.
  • Evidence of leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate creative teams to achieve excellence.
  • Experience in being a creative thinker with a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling through visual media.
  • Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and best practices in short form video, animation and photography production, as well as emerging technologies and platforms in the digital media landscape.
  • Evidence of flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a willingness to embrace change and drive innovation.
  • Experience in project management abilities, including the capacity to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines within budget constraints.
  • Experience in industry-standard software and tools for video editing, photography retouching, and project management (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Bridge, Wrike or other project management tool, Google Docs, etc.).

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (70%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (15%). Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%). Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. May supervise student workers. Other duties as assigned.
