DESCRIPTION

Come build the future of Workplace Privacy with Amazon!

As a member of the People, eXperience, and Technology (PXT) Risk and Compliance team, you will help technology teams, business leaders, and data analysts comply with important global legal requirements.

Amazon PXT has created a first-of-its-kind program to automatically manage data retention, deletion, and anonymization, at-scale. PXT uses data for a variety of purposes, including to manage its global workforce; ensure compliance with laws, policies, and regulations; administer benefits; support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives; and support professional development for employees. While this data is important to running the business, we recognize that it is not always appropriate to keep all of this information, forever.

As a Privacy Specialist, you will work to understand the multiple uses for our data and the teams processing it, establish business requirements for how long it is stored, and enable processes to anonymize or delete data that is no longer required. From there, you will own mechanisms to update our global policies. You will also participate in process design and improvement, quality assurance, and governance in support of team success. Finally, you will own multiple projects for presentation and delivery to management.

The right person will demonstrate the ability to: think critically about data; earn trust with stakeholders to understand their data needs and impacts; understand technical dependencies; negotiate trade-offs; make well-thought and effective decisions; and present clear, business-focused documents for a variety of audiences.

Co-ops will also be assigned one ‘intern project’ to research, propose, and present at the end of your time at Amazon. Examples of previous Co-op projects include: creating quality control processes, conducting Amazon-wide communication campaigns for tech leaders, and presenting recommendations for technical automation.

Your job responsibilities as a Privacy Specialist will include:

  • Understanding data uses in PXT and aligning them with employment policies;
  • Creating user-facing resources, such as Wiki pages, frequently asked questions, and visual process diagrams;
  • Building strategies to improve the efficiency and quality of existing processes;
  • Partnering with business and technical stakeholders to resolve conflicting requirements and negotiate trade-offs;
  • Creating escalation, quality control, and other governance processes;
  • Suggesting ideas for improvement to the team; and
  • Developing documents for presentation to Amazon leaders

In the words of a current Co-op student for the PXT Privacy team: "This Co-op has been amazing. The opportunity to develop new tools alongside my team to address the challenges of data privacy has been incredible. I have expanded my ability to problem solve and lead projects, and importantly to ask questions and be curious. My exposure to leadership practices and goal-oriented effort has given me a broader view of what makes a successful business successful, and the skills needed in a tech and data world. Truly a great experience!”

If interested, you will be asked for a writing sample demonstrating professional writing. This sample may be a business proposal, research paper, editorial, or other succinct (2 pages or less) example outlining your ideas, perspective, or recommendations.
