Position Summary

Retail media is going to be the fastest growing advertising channel through 2027, growing by more than 20% year over year. By 2027, Retail Media will be almost tied with social media as the No. 2 channel (by spend), second only to search!

With this rapid growth in ad spending has come an explosion of new Retail Media Networks, creating a crowded field from which CVS Media Exchange (CMX) needs to stand out.

We need a Senior Manager, Industry Marketing to shape our strategy for identifying where and how our brand shows up, and to help us break through the clutter. Combining deep industry knowledge, with data and insights, and a thorough understanding of the industry marketing landscape, you will craft our yearly strategy for ensuring that the advertising, media, and technology industries take notice of CMX.

You will develop a strategically led recommendation for when, where, and how CMX shows up at industry events and in industry publications. You will build a business case and strategy (what are we trying to achieve? How does this event help us with that?), put the plans together (Why this level of investment? How will we show up? What KPIs will we measure to determine success?), execute the event (coordinating talking points / presentations, overseeing all event logistics) and then report back on the results and optimize future events.

As the industry facing lead you will work closely with CMX’s PR agency to coordinate coverage of events and media opportunities at events as well as ensuring that the interview content is aligned with our brand messaging and editorial calendar.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop and own a repeatable process for planning and executing industry events
  • Determine where, how, and to what extent CMX shows up at industry events
  • Own the relationships with conference organizers to execute sponsorships, speaking engagements, and other promotional opportunities
  • Work with our PR agency to ensure CMX is receiving positive coverage by relevant trade publications and industry leaders, that CMX talking points are aligned with key brand and product messages, and that our people are properly trained and prepared to speak to the media on CMX’s behalf.
  • Lead our participation in industry scorecards and evaluations ensuring that our brand, product, and platform are accurately represented.
  • Oversee award show strategy, making recommendations on which shows to enter and which projects or people to submit.
  • Plan yearly budgets and allocate resources across a calendar of events

How we work:

As part of a small marketing team, you will need to be comfortable operating with autonomy to build our industry marketing arm. And that may mean influencing teams to think differently and challenging existing processes. We know you can navigate and break down barriers with a good business case. Success in this role will require comfort working with leaders and peers across a dynamic and diverse team. You will frequently work closely with our sales, product, and product marketing teams to select events, recommend attendees, and develop talk tracks and other content. We’ve seen immense success at CMX in our first 3.5 years, and a lot of that is due to a team of strong talent unencumbered by traditional role definitions. While our overall direction is clear, we value a scrappy way of working and are looking for someone like you that thrives in a startup environment. Our entire team is eager to join forces to grow this burgeoning business together, with no task too big or small.
