POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Director, Global Medical Communications is responsible for working with the Medical Communications team for Intercept Pharmaceuticals’ products. The person will develop and appropriately distribute accurate and timely medical & scientific information to internal and external customers. The Associate Director will develop a strong clinical understanding of the Intercept products and their associated disease states.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Respond to internal (e.g., Clinical, Regulatory, Marketing, Corporate Communications, Business Development) and external customer (e.g., healthcare practitioner, consumer) medical inquiries regarding Intercept products in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Lead, develop and maintain standard responses and FAQs to support company products.
  • Manage the global medical information call center. Main point of contract between company and call center personnel.
  • Establish and maintain the global medical information database(s). Oversee the medical communications metrics.
  • Create and review of medical education materials for external customers.
  • Support the development, maintenance and distribution of medical materials, managed care formulary dossiers, literature etc.
  • Staff medical information booths at medical and scientific conventions/conferences as needed.
  • Provide medical support to clinical, pharmacovigilance and commercial teams, including performing literature searches and distributing periodic scientific literature update reports to internal customers, and providing medical input for clinical and regulatory documents (e.g. Investigator Brochures, Periodic Safety Updates, Annual Reports).
  • Develop and revise medical communications/information SOPs.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of global medical communications functions, legal and regulatory requirements, Codes of Practice, Standard Operating Practices and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

 

  • Healthcare professional (RN, PharmD/BS-Pharmacy, PhD or other relevant degree)

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry required, to at least 3 years of medical communication/information experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented personality, and ability to work across functions

  • Must be self-motivated, highly organized, detail-oriented and able to multi-task with delivering high quality work

  • Must be able to manage their own work, with ability to prioritize, plan and organize work assignments of the team while working under strict timelines

  • Must be able to develop business solutions to complex problem

  • Solid understanding of the cross functional drug development processes (Clinical operations, Data Management, Biostats, and Regulatory)

  • Proficiency with standard desktop computing programs (e-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and relational databases
