Team Overview:

Data Solutions resides within the broader Berkeley IT Campus Applications & Data unit, which ensures that the University’s mission-critical applications and data are aligned, designed, integrated, and managed together. Data Solutions consists of Integration Services, responsible for data integration and architectural considerations across campus applications, as well as the Data Analytics team, responsible for campus-wide analytics and reporting, the Data Engineering Team, and the Portfolio Management Team. These are exciting areas that will experience growth and the need for innovation as the campus develops the governance, services and culture that support data as a critical campus asset.

Responsibilities

  • UC Berkeley’s Integration Services (IS) seeks an Integrations Software Engineer who applies advanced knowledge of system, software, data, and integration concepts, best practices, and principles as well as of current and emerging applicable technologies to integrate data from the campus' major systems of record with ancillary applications.
  • You'll help set campus strategy and standards for integrations architecture and design and guide peer developers across campus as they implement them.
  • You'll develop APIs in Java + Spring Boot, as well as design integrations that rely on message queues and streaming technologies. 
  • You'll need to exhibit solid skills in persuasive oral and written communication, requirements elicitation, code development & deployment, testing & quality assurance, and human & machine-readable documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Highly advanced skills associated with data integration design, modification, implementation, and deployment, including object-oriented programming and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Advanced experience with the Java frameworks and common programming tools, such as Spring Boot and IntelliJ.
  • Advanced experience with identification and the use of code libraries and open-source forums.
  • Advanced knowledge of secure software development practices.
  • Advanced ability to understand functional needs and how integrations can support them.
  • Advanced ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Intermediate experience with Java Messaging, such as Apache ActiveMQ or Amazon SQS.
  • Demonstrated skills in behavior & performance testing and test planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others to adopt standards or technologies using effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and works independently as well as part of a team.
  • Eager to explore and master new concepts and technologies.
  • Able to organize responsibilities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with serverless cloud computing services, such as AWS Lambda.
  • Experience with patching and deploying cloud resources, and with monitoring cloud resource activity.
  • Experience with data streaming technologies, such as Apache Kafka or Amazon Kinesis.
  • Proficiency with Ruby on Rails and Javascript.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $95,300.00 - $136,700.00.

  • This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
  • This position is eligible for flexible, hybrid or fully-remote work (telecommuting) based on candidate availability and business needs.
