Humanscale Design Studio is the creative force that drives Humanscale, the leading manufacturer of ergonomic products for the workplace. Our passion is designing products that combine uncompromising function and honest aesthetics with ultimate ease-of-use.

We seek an exceptional individual to join the engineering team as a NPI Engineer III focusing on new product development and introduction processes, specializing in sitting product (e.g. Chair, Floating Table, etc). The successful applicant must possess a background as a NPI engineer of consumer products, an analytical and creative mind, a willingness to work in a fast-paced production environment, and an outstanding work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development effort of multiple products simultaneously ensuring cost, schedule, and performance requirements are met.
  • Work with Design Engineers (DE), Industrial Designers (ID) and vendors to ensure function, cost and quality requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Interface with manufacturers and DE to define part manufacturability and acceptability
  • Communicate DE and ID’s design intent to suppliers and vendors
  • Communicate manufacturing issues or efficiencies to DE and ID
  • Coordinate DFM and DFA between vendors and Design Studio
  • Manage the construction of prototypes
  • Author and edit test plans to ensure product or parts meet functional and quality requirements.
  • Manage EVT, DVT and PVT process and review results to ensure products and part consistently meet functional and quality requirement.
  • Using CAD software, develop 3D models of parts and assemblies
  • Perform theoretical engineering analysis on prospective designs
  • Develop engineering drawings that communicate applicable information for manufacturing and assembly
  • Review off-tool samples and inspection reports while working to resolve manufacturing issues
  • Interface with operations team to coordinate product launch
  • Manage external engineering consulting resources
  • Provide engineering support in mass production
  • Refine internal product development processes

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience as a mechanical / NPI engineer in product development. 
  • Established record successfully developing products similar to those at Humanscale
  • Exceptional understanding of mechanisms and mechanical systems
  • Experience working with suppliers in new product design and enhancement, NPI, Value Engineering.
  • Skilled with most common manufacturing processes and materials, e.g. die casting, injection molding, stamping and sheet metal fabrication, machining, extrusion, PCBA etc.
  • Good understanding of mechanisms and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences through various media, including clear and concise language, drawing skills, digital image manipulation, clear and professional emails.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in project management.
  • Experience with GD&T
  • Skilled using 3-D modeling software such as Solidworks
  • Skilled working with manufacturers to creating suitable engineering drawings
  • Skilled working directly with overseas vendors and USA to solve manufacturing issues
  • Good written and oral communication skills and the traits of an effective team member.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize work and accurately perform duties and drive results across multiple disciplinary departments.
  • Must have independent and creative problem solving skills and the discipline of being data driven and result oriented. Able to make quick and accurate decisions and perform under pressure.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience
  • Must be fluent in English, both spoken and written
