The Director of Marketing, Communications and Publications reports directly to the Chief of Staff, is a member of the President's Council and works strategically with college administrators, faculty, staff and student groups. The director develops and executes marketing strategies supporting the college's enrollment, recruitment and retention efforts and brand awareness to internal and external audiences across an array of media including print, web, email, social media, mobile, advertising, public relations and direct marketing channels to reach the college’s primary external and internal audiences, ensuring marketing efforts and creative services are strategically aligned and supportive of the college's mission and strategic vision. Additionally, this position administers and guides the editorial, graphic presentation and electronic publishing services of the college. The director also serves as primary media contact for the institution and works with senior staff to respond to media inquiries.

JOB SUMMARY:

The director develops and executes marketing strategies supporting the college's enrollment, recruitment and retention efforts and brand awareness to internal and external audiences across an array of media including print, web, email, social media, mobile, advertising, public relations and direct marketing channels to reach the college’s primary external and internal audiences, ensuring marketing efforts and creative services are strategically aligned and supportive of the college's mission and strategic vision. Additionally, this position administers and guides the editorial, graphic presentation and electronic publishing services of the college. The director also serves as primary media contact for the institution and works with senior staff to respond to media inquiries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops, refines and implements comprehensive integrated marketing and communications plan for the college, using market research techniques to assess community and student needs.

• Creates strategic plans for new marketing initiatives, message development, creative direction, target audiences, timelines and other related issues and regularly reports and assesses the success of campaigns using analytic tools and ROI reporting.

• Manages professional staff to achieve department’s strategic goals.

• Plans and implements creative college advertising that includes the development of themes, identifying target audiences and selecting appropriate media outlets with the goal of increasing enrollment, and recruiting and retaining students.

• Develops a comprehensive news media communications program that focuses on access and accuracy and maintains personal contact with news media professionals through visits, phone calls and correspondence.

• Directs the preparation, review and production of the college’s print and electronic publications, speeches, news releases and other internal and external communications.

• Ensures that brand messaging and graphic identity are consistent across the college.

• Works with college faculty, staff and students to develop and implement promotion and publicity programs for college events and activities, including soliciting free publicity in various media, development of effective paid advertising programs within budget limitations, preparation and the production of collateral materials.

• Evaluates the newsworthiness of college events and activities and ensures effective promotion of same.

• Plans and coordinates college and division publication priorities and activities.

• Develops and assesses internal communication processes and initiates appropriate changes as needed.

• Supervises assigned staff by setting schedules, assigning tasks, evaluating performance and making disciplinary decisions.

• Monitors and reviews projects to ensure that all deadlines are met and that the end product meets quality standards.

• Forecasts operating requirements, prepares budget requests, monitors and approves expenses and initiates budget changes.

• Serves as a college representative to various community groups and chairs and/or serves as a member of college committees.

• Performs related duties as required or assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

• Proficiency using software appropriate to a marketing, communication and publications office, including but not limited to MS Office, and Adobe Creative Suite.

• Must have access to and use of own transportation.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

• This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred, in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or related discipline.

• A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in planning and managing marketing programs, advertising, communications and publication development required. Higher education experience is desirable.

• Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of Associated Press style, web development, social media, video production, e-communications, publications and branding.

• Candidate must have at least three years of experience managing professional staff.

• Candidate must have experience in developing and executing multichannel marketing plans.

• Knowledge of Web content development, digital marketing tools and technologies and social media tools and technologies are preferred.

• Relevant experience working in higher education is desirable.

GRADE & SALARY:

CCRI BOE 15; Salary range begins at $65,506

Hiring salary commensurate with education and experience

WORK SCHEDULE:

35 hours per week; Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events.

SUPERVISES:

The director manages a small staff of public relations professionals who are multi-talented specialists in writing, marketing, graphic design, publications, videography, photography, and special event coordinators.
