Salary The salary range for this classification is $4,161 to $6,995 per month. The targeted salary may be set as high as $5,338 per month based on experience.
Department General Accounting and Financial Reporting
Position Description The Accountant II generates, reviews, and processes journals for the month and year end fiscal close. Performs and reviews complex fund and account analyses and reconciliations. Prepares internal and external financial reports and statements, including year-end GAAP statements. Reviews, recommends, and implements solutions to complex accounting problems and activities to facilitate operational efficiencies and effectiveness. Maintains process documentation and participates in the testing of systems and processes affecting the general ledger and other modules in PeopleSoft.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices for preparation of financial statements and preparing for audits. Knowledge of financial recordkeeping methods, sound accounting controls, business processes, policies, and procedures to interpret and apply the effects of policies and rules to financial analyses. Strong analytical and technical skills for the performance of fluctuation, variance, ratio, projection, and trend analyses. Ability to review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards. Able to compile and verify data. Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and to be accountable for one's own work results. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of PeopleSoft preferred. Knowledge of Excel and Word required.

Education and Experience Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, public administration, or a closely related field and two years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience required. Governmental accounting experience is desirable
