The School of Business at the University of California, Riverside is a nationally-ranked and internationally recognized AACSB-accredited business school. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management, which features an MBA, Ph.D., Professional MBA, Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAc), Master of Finance (MFin), and Master of Business Analytics (MSBA) programs. The school is positioned as a center of excellence in business education through cutting-edge research on the business challenges of the 21st century. The Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Business Programs will be responsible for overseeing the Academic Advising and Student Services program for the Undergraduate Business Programs Office in the School of Business. The Assistant Dean will assist the Dean, Department Chair, Associate Dean, faculty, and students in academic advising, recruitment, admissions, financial aid, visa/immigration matters, student orientation, events, and career-related programs. The incumbent will be responsible for student orientation and events, career counseling, and related programs. Scope includes the development and implementation of budgets, oversight of all staff and operational activities, and implementation of curricular and other academic and administrative activities to ensure a coherent and high-quality undergraduate experience. The Assistant Dean will develop and oversee the dissemination of strategic communications; develop and implement long-range plans for academic support programs, policies, and procedures; translate policies into operational structure and serve as a member of the Dean's senior leadership team. The incumbent exercises leadership and discretionary authority to solve managerial and programmatic concerns; and utilizes a high degree of independence, ingenuity, and analytical skills to resolve complex problems without precedent and/or structure. The Assistant Dean will act as the liaison between the School and external offices (Campus, UC-wide, public) on a variety of matters related to the undergraduate business program office.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time Manages student services programs.

  • Strong knowledge of undergraduate programs, administration of curriculum, fiscal, and personnel activities. Ability to analyze policies and procedures and advise students, faculty, administrators and others about requirements. Responsible for the oversight and management of undergraduate program's course enrollment and course offerings to meet the needs of the undergraduate population. Responsible for the undergraduate enrollment management.

20 Makes decisions on performance, salary actions, hiring decisions and other human resources related issues of managed staff.

  • Responsible for monitoring production and quality of staff work and set performance standards. Assess staff capabilities and delegate, assign and redistribute work as necessary. Teach/train staff in all aspects of job duties/responsibilities. Monitor and evaluate employee performance; and conduct corrective action. Coordinates effort for the recruitment and selection staff within unit.

15 Provides direction to professional student services advisors on the more complex issues encountered.

  • Develop and adapt new advising methodologies, software, and tools to incorporate cutting-edge best practices. Assign and direct duties and special assignments as directed by the School Dean, Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Business Program, and/or Others on special projects (e.g., workshops, recruitment, presentations, and off-campus visits).

10 Evaluates the effectiveness of the student services function, and makes changes to the program to provide better service to organizational management, faculty, and students.

  • Collaborate with department and college administration to ensure curriculum meets current industry standards and is streamlined to avoid causing barriers to graduation. Continually monitor and review curriculum to help support the faculty and associate Dean in determining if changes/ modifications are needed. Work with the campus especially the Registrar's office to ensure any and all curriculum/modifications are correctly updated in the catalog and reflects accurately in student facing technologies (Such as Banner and campus CRM) and School of Business UG Program information documents and online resources.

10 Responsible for conducting research, data analysis and drafting proposals as needed for special projects to address college challenges including proposing changes to current college service delivery models and to ensure the college meets undergraduate student enrollment needs and student service benchmarks to increase undergraduate retention and graduation rates.

10 Plans, develops, and administers the student services budget for the organization.

  • Determine and allocate resources to meet goals and objectives for student organizations.

5 Recognizes issues that have organization impact or future implications and advises employees accordingly.

  • Monitor and assess direct reports, processes and/or services, to ensure organizational improvements. Provides strong demonstrated understanding of good management, administrative and personnel practices.

5 Represents the student services unit to the organization community and relevant external constituencies.

  • Responsible for interpreting organization policies to advise students and faculty on student conduct, grievances, disputes, and issues regarding discrimination.

5 Leads the development, implementation, staffing, and operations of programs and services encompassing advising, retention, financial aid, career, and opportunities for growth such as interdisciplinary studies, internship and mentoring programs, and student community service activities.

5 Support the Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program by building relationships with various industries, partners, and potential employers and connecting them with our students.
