USF's COPH was founded in 1984. As of Fall, 2022 the college has awarded over 10,000 degrees and currently serves 5,404 students in undergraduate and graduate programs including 100 online courses plus 6 online degree programs. Currently there are nearly 100 faculty and over 300 support and project staff.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dean of the College serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the College, manages a budget of over $80 million, represents and advocates for the College with University leaders, and is the voice of the College throughout the greater community. Also provides overall leadership, champions the best interests of faculty, and assures the success of every student. As Senior Associate Vice President for USF Health, serves on the Executive Vice President's leadership team and advises on all matters related to USF Health. As a Professor in the College and member of the faculty, participates in teaching, research, scholarship, and service activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Duties: 5% FTE

  • Participate in teaching initiatives within the College and throughout USF Health as needed. Foster an inter-professional learning environment within the College and throughout USF Health.

Research/Scholarship Duties: 5% FTE

  • Collaborate with faculty across the College, USF Health and USF to participate in translational research initiatives as appropriate. Participate in scholarly activities including publishing and presenting at local, regional and national conferences.

Service Duties: 5% FTE

  • Participate in service activities at the university, professional and community levels, including serving on faculty governance committees, special work groups and other university service roles. Participate at the local, state and national level in professional organizations and activities.

Administrative Duties: 85% FTE

  • Specific responsibilities of the Dean and Senior Associate Vice President include:
  • Coordinating the formulation of objectives, policies, plans, and programs that maintain and enhance the College’s strategic, financial, and programmatic positioning.
  • Develop, facilitate, and support an outstanding multi-disciplinary research portfolio in the College that is supported by external funding.
  • Recruit, retain, develop, and mentor faculty in the College to guide education, research, and public health care and practice of the highest quality within their areas
  • Ensure the development and implementation of sound fiscal policy, procedures, and control systems necessary to assure the financial performance of the College and University.
  • Maintain an optimal environment to foster continuous productive dialogue with students, faculty, community providers, and other representatives of the College.
  • Inspire, motivate, and provide mentorship to generate high morale and enhanced teamwork among faculty and staff in the College leading to a high level of motivation and productivity. 
  • Continuously lead the oversight and support the maintenance of all the College’s accreditation needs such as its national accreditation standards.
  • Responsible for promoting inter-professional education and interdisciplinary research within USF Health and throughout the University, as well as community engagement, locally and internationally.
  • As Senior Associate Vice President for USF Health, serves on the Executive Vice President’s leadership team and advises on all matters related to USF Health.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

  • An earned doctorate in public health, or in a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of continuous and productive accomplishment as an Associate Professor in a University or equivalent setting.
  • A record of excellence in teaching, including a clearly defined teaching philosophy and a record of participation on and as major professor for thesis and/or dissertation committees for master's and doctoral candidates where applicable.
  • A national and/or international record of excellence in independent and/or collaborative research and/or creative scholarly work, supported by substantial and sustained publications or their equivalent.
  • A record of substantive contribution of service to the University and to the field, profession, and community.
  • Compelling evidence of significant achievement among peers in one's discipline or professional field at the national or international level.
  • A record of collegiality and participation as a citizen of a University or other equivalent institution.
  • Demonstrated success as a progressive, responsible leader in variable positions in an academic and/or practice environment.

PREFERRED:

  • An earned Master of Public Health.
  • Successful record of innovative teaching in an academic and/or practice environment..
  • Leadership in professional, scientific, and/or community-based organizations.
  • A commitment to a team-oriented approach with other USF Health leaders and administrators.
