General Summary 

The Web Content Writer oversees the written content of WSSC Water’s corporate websites. They ensure all web material is current, accessible, accurate, and written in appropriate style and voice. They work closely with the Communications Office (COMMS) team members to maintain the WSSC Water intranet homepage and the COMMS office pages.

  • Essential Functions
  • Oversees the day-to-day maintenance of web content and manages a proactive content authoring and review process to ensure content is accurate and current
  • Works closely with business sections to improve their internet and intranet pages
  • Researches/Reviews, drafts, edits, and publishes internet web content to ensure content is current and necessary
  • Coordinates with content owners to ensure relevance, consistency, style, and quality
  • Requests web content and graphics from business users and the Communications Office staff
  • Ensures adherence to the web design template, branding, and WSSC Water editorial style guides
  • Ensures all web content is correctly implemented within current web standards and adheres to all WSSC Water policies relating to web content publication, security, and information architecture
  • Ensures all web material is current, accessible, accurate, and written in appropriate style and voice
  • Performs image editing and touch-ups; resizing collateral web materials to fit website specifications
  • Helps and trains designated authoring employees in various business sections on the use of the intranet web content management systems
  • May participate in the IT Change Management process weekly with business stakeholders to gather information on upcoming IT deployments and strategically guide communications with internal and external stakeholders
  • Works with IT to coordinate web-based projects for the Communications office
  • Serves as a liaison with the Communications office and IT Team to resolve system and access issues
  • Implements the use of video and social media on the internet/intranet to communicate with customers and other stakeholders
  • Identifies and evaluates issues and advises management on appropriate style to communicate issues on the web and social media
  • Provides support to users who manage their department’s content on the intranet including troubleshooting and training
  • Provides support and training to users who manage Constant Contact subscription lists for the Commission
  • Monitors Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Google Tag Manager to mitigate website issues and collect analytics for campaigns
  • Develops UTM tags for social media for various business sections to track campaign success

  • Thorough knowledge of website design principles and best practices for creating user-friendly and visually attractive web pages
  • Thorough knowledge of Section 508 compliance and WCAG 2 guidelines regarding accessibility for websites
  • Ability to utilize HTML5 and CSS3 or higher
  • Thorough knowledge of public relations and media relations principles, crisis communications, and writing techniques and style for use by the media
  • Experience with enterprise content management and the use of content management systems (CMS)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to take sometimes difficult material and present it in a manner readily understood by the audience
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with employees and other stakeholders
  • Experience with web and graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Illustrator and Photoshop)
  • Experience with creating accessible files for websites through Adobe and Microsoft products
  • Experience with PowerPoint and understanding its use with WSSC Water’s branded templates
  • Familiarity with other tools such as IBM Web Content Management (WCM), or similar content management tools
  • Familiarity with administration of Constant Contact or other email subscription tools for email subscription management, training new users, and developing branded templates
  • Familiarity with MediaTile or other visual signage software tools for updating visual signage across the commission as backup support
  • Basic familiarity with audio and video editing software for special projects to support the video producer in Communications
  • Knowledge of JotForm or similar form creation tools to manage existing forms and create new forms as needed, including creating conditional formatting
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Google Search Console for leveraging analytics to create and understand/simplify reports on recent campaigns
  • Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related discipline
  • 5+ years experience in public relations, media, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in managing content and production for corporate websites

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 9+ years of increasingly responsible experience in public relations, media, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in managing content and production for corporate websites
  • Additional Requirements
  • Completion of the WSSC Water Financial Disclosure statement within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter
  • Expected to be available for emergencies to manage website content to inform customers and other stakeholders
  • Preferences
  • Experience in water and/or wastewater industry
  • Fluency in Spanish

Salary $76,181 - $129,507
