Result of Service

The Expert will review existing interfaces, standard visuals and reports, and highlight areas for improvement in the product layout and system UI and UX. The Expert will train relevant members of the CPAS team and mission focal points on design and visualization best practices for reporting documents. Ultimately, the services culminate in an improved system, allowing for easier navigation and use by missions, and improved communications through reporting to mission leadership, DPO and the Security Council.

Duties and Responsibilities

The temporary job opening is from 22 April to 30 June 2024. The consultant will be home-based. The consultancy position is located in the Evaluation Team within the Policy, Evaluation and Training Division (DPET) of the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The consultant is under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Evaluation Team. The Expert will perform the following: • Advise and train the Evaluation team on user-friendly design and visualization, particularly for use in regular reporting products • Advise and interface with missions to identify pain points and areas for improvement in the user interface, factsheets, and dashboards. • Advise on improvements to existing training materials on the system, and on in-development specifications for an upcoming eTraining module • Advise and guide the Evaluation Team on consistent visual identity and branding both for the team to ensure compliance with broader UN standards

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent degree) in user experience, user interface, graphic design or a related fine arts field, communications, journalism, marketing, public administration or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years of established expertise in an advisory or capacity building role in user experience, user interface, graphic design, data visualization, data-related monitoring and evaluations programs or related technical innovation work, training and capacity building is required. Experience working and liaising closely with clients, using a user-centric design process is required. Knowledge of MS Power BI, Tableau, Shiny, or other visualization and dashboard creation programs is required. Knowledge of UN DPO or other peacekeeping operations is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the consultancy position advertised, fluency in English is required.
