The opportunity: 

Uphold is looking for a Data Scientist to join our Data Team and work very closely with our Marketing Team. This is a fascinating opportunity where you’ll get to join a team of engineers, scientists, and analysts who are passionate about data and technology with a great sense of collaboration and responsibility.

You’ll be responsible for data-driven insights that enable our Marketing efforts, by optimizing their processes and decisions, as well as building data-enabled solutions for the challenges we face. You will gather, organize, and aggregate large data sets to produce meaningful business insight and solve critical challenges that give us a competitive edge. What you’ll be doing primarily:

  • Conduct in-depth data explorations and analyses used by Marketing, leadership, and other teams to enhance branding, acquisition, conversion, and retention efforts.
  • Closely collaborate with the core Data and Marketing teams to identify data-enabled solutions to Marketing challenges.
  • Design and conduct A/B(/n) tests to evaluate and continuously improve core Marketing aspects such as communication channels and campaigns.
  • Identify customer segments suitable for targeted marketing campaigns that maximize return on investment.
  • Build and communicate compelling data stories clearly and concisely, both orally and via well-documented dashboards, visualizations, and reports.
  • Bring machine learning systems to life to support, automate, and enhance decisions.
  • Research and evaluate state-of-the-art data-mining methods that could provide Uphold a competitive edge.
  • Contribute to defining overarching processes and practices across the Marketing and Data teams.
  • Evangelize a data-driven culture throughout the Marketing and leadership teams.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, economics, statistics, informatics, data science, or engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of probability, descriptive, and inferential statistics.
  • Applied knowledge of applying data mining and machine learning techniques to real-world data (e.g. classification, clustering, time series forecasting).
  • Strong knowledge of Python and SQL.
  • Experience working with data warehousing solutions and leveraging models in a cloud-based environment.
  • Proven ability to transform the results of complex modeling procedures into concrete decisions and actions.
  • Ability to lead small projects from conception and design through implementation to delivery and communication.
  • Drive to grow as a well-rounded data scientist in quantitative methods, software engineering, communication, and business.
  • Creativity, curiosity, and a growth mindset.
  • Team player with the ability to work within cross-functional teams.
  • Value and results-oriented, with a keen eye for quality of deliverables.
  • Fluent written and oral English skills.

Bonus if you have:

  • Professional experience in leveraging data to support and enable Marketing goals toward understanding and segmenting the customer base, maximizing acquisition, retention, and lifetime value, among other use cases.
  • Knowledge about AI and tracking state-of-the-art practices, aligned with the most recent regulations (e.g. CCPA, GDPR, EU AI Act).
  • Experience working with Snowflake, Looker, and Metabase.
  • Fluency in cryptocurrencies, smart contracts, and other digitized financial instruments.
  • Community talks, certifications, and/or blog posts on your areas of interest.
  • Open-source project contributions, such as tools developed to solve specific problems you’ve had or fixing issues on existing projects.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
