As a Database Administrator you will be responsible for all activities related to the administration of company databases including mySQL (primary), Oracle, Vertica, and Hadoop. This individual should have strong time management skills and the ability to pick up new concepts in an evolving business. Duties & Responsibilities Plan, design, configure and maintain databases on Linux servers for both production and development environments Perform data modeling and schema design Optimize database performance and scalability Investigate and troubleshoot performance issues Advise engineers on performance tuning, query optimization, index tuning. Automate failover and recovery, backup scripting and disaster recovery planning. Monitor infrastructure to ensure stability and maximum available uptime Provide assistance to development teams to help integrate data persistence seamlessly. Database architecture and implementation Define database authorization rules, perform security audit, and perform platform assessment regarding proper support for the selected databases. Read and implement entity-relationship diagrams. Collaborate with application architects, product managers, business analysts and technical management team to design, develop and document databases, schemas, tables, functions, triggers, procedures, relationships and other necessary aspects of the database. Handle multiple projects simultaneously and engage in problem solving on these projects. Provide Administration, management and support of Hadoop distributions such as MapR, Cloudera, etc. Design and provide solutions to satisfy security and audit compliance requirements relating to SOX and other internal requirements Provide status reports to senior management Be available 24x7 as an escalation for the on call team  Required Skills  Experienced SQL developer  Expert knowledge of MySQL database tuning and optimizing complex MySQL statements for best possible performance Knowledge of Hadoop and/or Vertica database installation, maintenance, and optimization Strong knowledge of database concepts – database design, performance tuning, replication setup Strong knowledge and prior experience of working on Data Warehousing concepts Previous experience working in a Java environment Familiarity with Linux Experience with short software lifecycles   In depth experience with database installation, configuration and upgrade Good communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills  Must have excellent learning abilities and have the ability to use various resources to research issues.  Experience working in 24/7, mission critical database environments Education/ Experience Bachelor’s Degree required 3-5 years of experience administering at least one of the following:  Oracle, MySQL, Vertica, or PostgreSQL databases on a Linux platform 1+ years of MPP (Massively Parallel Processing systems such as Greenplum, Netezza, Teradata or Vertica) and/or HADOOP (such as MapR, Cloudera, Hortonworks) administration experience. Experience supporting mission critical relational databases with exceptional troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
