The Role

We are seeking a Program Manager to join the Tech Strategy & Business Development (TSBD) team within the American Express Technology organization. The TSBD team works on projects in areas such as internal strategy consulting, platform strategy, and mergers & acquisition advisory.

This program manager role will work on strategic planning and program management for Amex Technology’s multi-year Tech Strategy and for high-priority strategic initiatives. This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of the Tech Strategy and to shape and influence the execution of Amex Technology strategic initiatives.

What You’ll Do 

The program manager in this strategic planning and program management role will define and support the multi-year Tech Strategy roadmap, manage regular Tech Strategy processes, and ensure successful delivery of the overall Tech Strategy. Additionally, the program manager will be instrumental in high-priority initiative execution by acting as a thought partner for strategic planning, establishing effective program structures to position initiatives for long-term success, and managing early-stage implementation efforts. Specifically, this program manager will: 

  • Develop and manage the multi-year Tech Strategy roadmap, ensuring progress is made towards achieving strategic goals 
  • Monitor and evaluate the Tech Strategy’s performance through regular metric tracking and initiative status reporting, analyzing progress and synthesizing key insights fit for executive-level audience 
  • Drive the ongoing evolution of the Tech Strategy by overseeing the annual refresh process and other roadmap activities 
  • Support strategy development process for Tech Strategy pillars, proposing recommendations, highlighting areas of opportunity, and providing frameworks 
  • Prepare updates for Steering Committee meetings with the Technology Leadership Team (TLT) and communicate with senior leads of cross-functional teams to ensure teams are aligned on SteerCo deliverables and working towards timely completion 
  • Create and maintain Tech Strategy artifacts and templates and build out a centralized document repository for all materials and key information 
  • Create comms plan for Tech Strategy socialization and prepare executive materials for various forums such as Town Halls, leadership meetings, etc.
  • Challenge the status quo and solve problems creatively using your toolbox of techniques such as Design Thinking, scenario modeling, use case development, journey mapping, business capability modeling, etc. 
  • Influence others, often without direct authority, persuading with compelling data, facts, and conclusions 
  • Collaborate effectively and build key relationships with cross-functional Technology teams as well as enterprise counterparts on business and product teams 
  • Support execution of strategic initiatives, including creating program roadmap, identifying ideal state and the strategic plan to achieve it, coordinate overall program management ensuring communication and change management best practices are implemented throughout

Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of experience in project/program management working on high-priority, large scale strategic initiatives in the digital space 
  • 3+ years relevant experience in management consulting/internal consulting delivering projects within Technology disciplines such as Digital Transformation, Emerging/Future Tech, etc. is a plus 
  • Demonstrated track record of independently driving end-to-end results across priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and executing flawlessly 
  • A self-starter with an ability to navigate ambiguity, form solutions out of white space, and easily adapt to a constantly evolving environment while continuing to make progress towards goals
  • Outstanding organizational skills with ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously 
  • Interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to build stakeholder relationships and work with cross-functional partners at all levels with strong executive presence
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate messages to a variety of audiences across functions and levels 
  • High intellectual curiosity, ability to solve complex problems, strategic thinking mindset, and innovative thought leadership 
  • Solid business acumen and problem-solving skills with high capacity for strategic/end-to-end planning and the ability to strategically identify implications and recommendations
  • Experience designing governance structures, effective operating models, and new processes for programs and strategic initiatives
  • Proficient in developing high-quality presentations and communication materials for an executive audience is a must with a strong attention to detail 
  • Experience working with C-suite/executive-level leadership
  • Expertise in Sharepoint, Confluence, and Microsoft suite, in particular PowerPoint 
  • Loves working in an entrepreneurial culture that is lean, fast paced, and dynamic 
  • Familiarity with agile delivery methodologies and working knowledge of software & product development life cycles
  • Prior exposure to FinTech and emerging tech landscape in payment/banking industry 
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
