About this role:

As a Staff Frontend Engineer, you will shape and execute frontend development of applications at Astronomer. You will work on our cloud-based managed service for Apache Airflow, focusing on building a user-friendly and intuitive UI that seamlessly integrates with the greater Astronomer product ecosystem.

You will work collaboratively with our data plane and other product teams to create an exceptional user experience for our customers. It's a great opportunity to work on some of the most challenging problems in data orchestration while contributing to the development of Astronomer’s next-generation product suite.

This is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

  • Own the end-to-end user experience for a new business-critical application
  • Design, implement, and maintain UI components, to build new features and improve existing ones
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize user needs, functional requirements, and design specifications
  • Continuously improve the user experience by optimizing performance and resolving technical issues
  • Collaborate with our team of Airflow connoisseurs, adding unique features to the open-source Airflow initiatives that set us apart in the commercial landscape
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation by proposing new ideas, testing new technologies and sharing your knowledge with the team
  • Review user feedback with product leads and triage into new features

What you bring to the role:

  • 7+ years of frontend or UI development experience
  • Experience leading complex front-end projects from conception to completion
  • Deep knowledge of architecture design, data structures, algorithms, online services, frameworks, and their tradeoffs
  • Strong proficiency in modern front-end technologies such as React, Typescript, Angular, Vue.js, or similar frameworks
  • Experience in developing applications that meet enterprise-level security and control
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs and integrating with backend services
  • Experience with software development best practices, such as code reviews, testing, CI/CD, version control, automation and debugging
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as we are a remote-first company.

Bonus points if you have:

  • A portfolio you can share to demonstrate the strength of your work
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS
  • Familiarity with server-side web technologies
  • Familiarity with big data processing frameworks such as Apache Airflow or Apache Spark
  • Experience with UI/UX design tools like Sketch or Figma

The estimated salary for this role ranges from $160,000 - $200,000, along with an equity component. This range is merely an estimate, and the width of the range reflects willingness to consider candidates with broad prior seniority. Actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
