(Junior/Senior) Associate Scientist USP

About the opportunity

Join Ablynx, a Sanofi company as a (junior/senior) Associate Scientist to help making Nanobody® based Pharmaceutical drugs using molecular engineering and/or fermentation technology as part of the CMC Upstream processing (USP) and Host Creation department. In this role you will be involved in close interdepartmental collaborations ranging from Discovery to other CMC departments such as Downstream processing (DSP) and CMC-Analytics. Join in on a critical stage of the nanobody development and get to know the ins and outs of Nanobody® development.

Ablynx, a Sanofi company, is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to creating new antibody-based medicines called Nanobodies® which are making a difference to Medicine. Ablynx currently has over 400 people working on the development of Nanobodies® for the treatment of a wide range of diseases, including inflammation, immuno-oncology and rare diseases.

The CMC USP and Host creation department is an important unit that consists of 16 experienced people that makes hundreds of different Nanobodies per year to evaluate their medicinal properties and for testing in different pre-clinical models. Our unit is strongly involved in the selection and development of the Nanobody® medicines that will be evaluated in patients.

About growing with us

The USP and Host Creation team will guide you through the complete process of Nanobody development and will train you in the use of new technologies to support your role.

A wide variety of activities are ongoing in the USP & Host creation department ranging from cutting-edge molecular techniques for engineering recombinant bacteria and yeast (i.e. host creation); high throughput screening, small scale microbioreactor productions up to large scale 400L productions for pre-clinical use. The assay techniques used include SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, Reverse Phase Chromatography, Size Exclusion and many others.

About you

Qualifications/Education & work experience

• Bachelor or Master degree in life sciences (such as Degree of Professional Bachelor in Laboratory Technology or Biotechnology (Laboratory Technician A1), Bachelor or Master in Industrial Sciences (Industrial Engineer), Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or similar
• No previous experience in industry is required

Competencies

• Hands-on mentality and comfortable with controlling high tech instrumentation
• Able to work independently and in team, enthusiastic and self-motivated
• Good writing and presentation skills
• Proficient in English, spoken and written
• Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Good sense for initiative, quality, accuracy and detail

Please include a description of your knowledge in molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology, protein production and/or fermentation, protein analysis and biochemistry. Any other experiences that support the motivation for joining our team are welcome too.

As a standard, a temporary contract (12 months) will be offered to junior candidates, with a possibility to extend or convert into a permanent contract.
