POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Linac Coherent Light Source-II High Energy Project is an upgrade to the continuous-wave (CW) superconducting electron linear accelerator and hard x-ray free electron laser (FEL) now under construction at SLAC. This project will double the electron energy of the accelerator from 4 to 8 GeV which will extend the tuning range of the FEL from 5 to 20 keV. The project will also enhance the LCLS hard x-ray instrumentation suite to make use of the enhanced tuning range of the FEL.

LCLS-II-HE Project has an employment opportunity available for an Installation Coordinator to lead the coordination, planning, and execution of installation activities of the LCLS-II-HE technical systems. The position reports to the Installation and Commissioning Systems Manager.

Given the nature of this position, SLAC is open to on-site and hybrid work options.

Specific Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Oversee installation planning and execution of the LCLS-II-HE technical systems, conventional facilities, SLAC accelerator, and experimental complex.
  • Develop and manage a coordinated project installation plan, monitor effectiveness, provide assistance to stakeholders to ensure adherence to the plan.
  • Coordinate with other LCLS-II-HE technical systems and organizations outside of the project to manage the installation plan.
  • Coordinate LCLS-II-HE interface development activities including, but not limited to contributing to development of the Master Interface and Interface Requirements documents.
  • Provide support and coordinate project technical reviews related to installation.
  • Develop and maintain receipt, inspection, acceptance, test, and storage plans.
  • Develop requirements verification methodology and strategy that includes testing/validation of subcomponents/subsystems during design, testing, and operation.
  • Assist in the development of acceptance criteria for delivered items, from industry and partners, e.g. tolerance compliance, documentation compliance. Assist with the development of system installation plans. 
  • Ensure testing requirements/testing procedures for components actively tested at SLAC and Partner Laboratories conform to project requirements.
  • Participate in the project risk management process. Ensure installation risks are identified, mitigated (where applicable), managed, and dispositioned.
  • Communicate project installation activities status, major issues, and progress as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field plus five years of relevant experience in accelerator design or operation.
  • Experience in the planning, execution and management of the design and construction, and operation of large scientific projects.
  • Technical expertise in designing, constructing, fabricating and procuring accelerator components, such as normal- and superconducting RF structures, cryogenics, magnets, diagnostics, vacuum, control systems, etc. 
  • Strong analytical and computational skills necessary to gather, organize and make well informed decisions.
  • Experienced people leader, including leading in a multi-laboratory and matrixed environments.
  • Experience working in an environment dedicated to quality, safety and customer service.
  • Experience with software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Flexibility to travel when required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the SLAC Linac system is highly desirable.
  • Design and Operational experience of superconducting accelerators is highly desirable.

The expected pay range for this position is $143,000 to $177,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
