About the department

You will join the Malaysia affiliate Legal & Compliance (L&C) department and report directly to the Legal, Compliance & Quality Director. This role is based in Malaysia.

The position

In this role, you will act as the Malaysia Legal and Compliance Counsel working with the Legal, Compliance, and Quality Director to advise the Malaysia affiliate on legal issues concerning its business and also to ensure an effective compliance program and a robust compliance culture across the company which focuses on prevention, detection (monitoring and reporting mechanisms) and response. 

Key accountabilities include:

  • Ensure compliance with Malaysian laws by collaborating with Business Area South-East Asia (BASEA), Asia Pacific (APAC), and International Operation (IO) Legal Teams, while identifying legal trends and sharing insights with relevant Malaysia affiliate functions, and providing high-quality legal àssistance for key projects, disputes, and arbitrations, including coordination with external law firms and effective management of legal documents and contracts.
  • Establish a comprehensive compliance communication program that encompasses healthcare professional interactions, conflicts-of-interest, confidentiality/privacy, fraud, bribery, and appropriate use of company assets within the Malaysia affiliate, including the establishment of compliance committees, assistance during compliance audits, and tracking high-risk areas while implementing corrective action plans.
  • Harmonize Business Ethics (BE) policies and procedures within the Malaysia affiliate, develop BE compliance training material and conduct training sessions across the value chain. Document internal investigation cases and assist with Data Privacy protection implementation to ensure compliance with local and global data protection requirements.
  • Assist various functions, such as Business Ethics Compliance Office (BECO) and Group Internal Audit (GIA), International Operations (IO), BASEA, and APAC Regional offices by collecting and working with internal legal and compliance data from different departments and sources as required.
  • Ensure efficient archiving system and compliance with Data Privacy requirements, while also aiding other functions by collecting and working with internal legal and compliance data from various sources.

Qualifications

  • 4 to 5+ years PQE (Post-Qualification Experience) with LLB qualifications from a recognized university, is a qualified advocate & solicitor in Malaysia with solid experience in an in-house role or a reputable law firm. 
  • Basic healthcare experience particularly in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proficient in following technology to deliver solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication expertise with ability to translate compliance issues into simple terms; you have the personality and stature to be able to work effectively with client groups at all levels; ability to speak in Mandarin Chinese and Bahasa Melayu would be an advantage.
