Job Description

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Manager, Regulatory Supervision Office you will be accountable for Tier 1 supervision within their designated branches. You will be accountable to provide leadership, expertise, guidance, support and training to all branch staff as it relates to sales supervision. You will ensure the business’s adherence to industry regulations and acceptable standards of business ethics and conduct. You will also recommend strategies to assist employees in reducing follow up with respect to supervisory related queries.

As the registered Supervisor, you will perform ongoing supervision of all regulatory and compliance activities of the branches.

This is a remote role in British Columbia or Alberta.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Trading and Account Supervision: Review activities related to Trading and Accounts such as; Daily Commission Run (including Options), Universal Market Integrity Rules, Monthly Statement (Pros and Clients), Monthly Activity, Portfolio Partner Quarterly Activity, Simple Discretionary Accounts, Prospectus Exempt Securities, Registered Account Debit Reports, FATCA Remediation Reports, Preliminary Prospectus Logs, CRM Sample Testing, Leveraged and Inverse Leveraged ETFs, Insurance Large Case Reviews and Inforce Policy, Individual Pension Plans etc.
  • Mandatory Regulatory Supervision: Supervision of New Investment Advisors (RRs) or Assistants (IRs).
  • Account Opening & Documentation: Review and Approve new accounts (including short options), account updates. Review incomplete documentation/restricted list and client address changes.
  • Communications: Manage outgoing correspondence (including email, fax) and marketing (including co-operative activities and websites).
  • Manage Complaints: Support the resolution of Service Complaints and Sales Practice Complaints.
  • Registrations: Ensure Branch Registration Requirements are met, including outside business activities.
  • Insurance Supervision: Ensure Tier 1 Supervision of Insurance for Estate Planning Specialists (EPSs). Conduct Business Application Review – Ensure a review of a new business cases generating >$25,000 in the First Year Commission (FYC) before the application is sent to the insurance company. Review of In-Force Policy – Review the anniversary report on a monthly basis to determine the ongoing suitability of the following: large insurance policy and Universal Life (UL) policy’s asset allocation
  • Governance and Controls: Effectively manage the overall governance and compliance framework for the branch including supervising staff responsible for conducting supervision as required.
  • Audits: Ensure annual audit preparedness, including conducting mini audits
  • Operational Excellence: Create a culture of operational excellence. Ensure adherence to the management of irregularities, Code of Conduct, Compliance Policies, Reputation and Legal Risk policies and training requirements

Who You Are

  • You're a certified professional. You are registered as a Supervisor with IIROC. You have successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course; the Conduct and Practices Handbook; the Derivative Fundamentals Course and the Option Licensing Course; the Options Supervisory Course; the Branch Manager’s Course.
  • Experiences you Bring. You have extensive experience in financial services and brokerage industry in a similar capacity. You possess advanced knowledge of CIBC internal and external regulatory requirements, policies, procedures and controls sufficient to ensure compliance.
  • You have strong business acumen. You have the necessary interpersonal skills to provide coaching and feedback to Branch Managers, Investment Advisors etc. You are able to effectively communicate and convey potential risk situations and implications and provide training to branch staff. You have strong knowledge of products, policies and procedures related to trade execution
  • You put our clients first. You engage with purpose to find the right solutions. You go the extra mile, because it's the right thing to do.
  • You’re an organized person. You have strong time and self-management skills sufficient to schedule, organize and complete work within established timeframes, while accommodating priorities.
