About the Position:

You will be a Principal Engineer in the Cybersecurity R&D team at Juniper Networks. Our mission is to ensure that all Juniper products are sufficiently secure to operate safely in their intended environments. To this end, we create reference designs and code for software and firmware security features. We also conduct original research and evangelize security engineering practices across the company.

We are seeking an experienced technical leader to design, develop and deliver the next-generation security technologies, taking ideas from start to finish, showing range and ability to shepherd innovations through the engineering community at Juniper and into industry. Responsibilities:

  • Set the agenda for forward Cybersecurity Research and Development at Juniper
  • Evaluate research proposals that may benefit Juniper customers, the Juniper intellectual property portfolio, industry, and the world at large
  • Drive innovation in system security technologies to ensure that Juniper products are resilient at all layers of the stack, from CPU to firmware to operating system to applications to the cloud
  • Represent Juniper and serve as industry leader for security standards like NIST FIPS 140, Common Criteria, IETF and Trusted Computing Group
  • Design winning product architectures that support security certifications required by the business (FIPS 140 and Common Criteria)
  • Develop and deliver training related to cybersecurity, along with blog posts and white papers that support understanding and adoption of Juniper R&D

Qualifications:

  • Product security leadership capability as demonstrated by previous industry roles, published research, RFCs, conference presentations, public vulnerability reports, or other written or media artifacts
  • Ability to communicate on cybersecurity to diverse audiences, from new-hire engineers to senior executives and customers
  • Capability to conduct original research, or guide the research of colleagues, in order to solve hard problems through empirical methods and experimentation
  • Experience in applied cryptography and how it is leveraged in product, protocol, and network design
  • Commitment to cybersecurity as an interdisciplinary science; range across functional and knowledge domains
  • Wisdom and forbearance in understanding the difference between “compliance” and empirical security, with a strong bias to empirical reality (code, for example) along with a willingness to support the compliance requirements (checklists, for example)
