About this role:

As the Vice President, Corporate Controller, you will be part of a strategic finance team reporting to the CFO. You will have responsibilities across accounting, tax, SOX, SEC reporting, and internal reporting. You will have an extremely high degree of visibility within the organization partnering with the executive team, the business and the CEO. We’re seeking a senior leader who is a change agent and driver of innovation, who is willing to challenge the status quo from both an operational and team perspective.

You will play a critical role in ensuring we continue building a world-class accounting function while partnering across the business to ensure our systems and processes are running smoothly. Our goal is to be scalable as we push towards best-in-class operations.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience across Audit, Accounting, Reporting & Finance Ops
  • Ability and experience to simplify and scale while letting a fast-moving business rapidly experiment with new lines of business
  • Proven ability to attract and retain talent, while building an organization
  • Strong executive presence in leading teams and working cross-functionally
  • Ability to navigate through challenges, multi-task, take ownership, and deliver on commitments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent soft-skills and ability to motivate and influence all levels of management

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Provide leadership and vision for scaling our financial infrastructure and our accounting team
  • Lead the timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process and all associated activities.
  • Be the technical accounting decision-maker for the company. Ensure consistent implementation of corporate accounting principles and procedures in full compliance with US GAAP
  • Develop and mentor the accounting team. Integrate them into the larger culture that includes marketing, product, engineering and operations departments
  • Drive improvements in existing and new reporting systems to increase efficiencies, enhance processes, automate activities and reduce reporting timelines
  • Act as primary liaison to the external auditors and other external service providers
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable taxes (especially sales tax), lead the tax prep and submissions process
  • Champion our culture across the organization
  • Integrate into the business and partner with leaders to work cross-functionally to support the entire business
  • Support our international business strategy

Requirements:

  • Experience with SaaS business model. 
  • 15+ years of experience in senior accounting roles at Private and or/ public companies experiencing high growth in a multinational environment; 
  • BS in Accounting or Finance, CPA required with excellent technical accounting skills

The salary range listed is for NYC/CA/WA. As a company, we have a location based strategy, which means the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.

MasterClass’s salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry. In addition to salary, we also offer equity and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, flexible PTO, and more). The range listed is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted.
